Seeing as how he's making accounts for everyone and their mom just for the FTP I doubt he wants to do the same for image files, which again, is too easy to abuse and would require a browser upload script.
Even the ftp signups are getting a little out of hand. Hosting images would be 10x worse because people would be linking them all over, not just on realpoor and unlike the ftp where everyone needs a login just to download the files, that wouldn't be the case. It'd suck up a lot of the http bandwidth, which from what I understand atm, there isn't a whole lot of already.

pretty much what minion said. my server already is pushing 40GB - 60GB of data per day and i have no uptime gaurentees on it and the last thing i want are more people iming/e-mailing/whatevering me when the thing is inaccessable. =)
heh, just looking at the stats for bandwidth usage for the past few days, on saturday we transferred 127GB =) fun

after thinking about it, i've decided to set this up. i'm gonna do like a lil trial and see how much bandwidth this is going to pull and then i'll make a final decision.

i saw that script being used in the something awful forums and i thought it was pretty cool. it's pretty self-explanatory.
1) load the page
2) click the browse button
3) find the image you want to upload on your hard drive
4) click open
5) click upload
- the file will now be uploaded and you'll have to wait a bit -
6) you'll see a screen that confirms the image was uploaded, click the "back" link
7) you're done, you may now link to that image.
the link you will use is:
http://image.blobbynet.com/store/FILENAME
where FILENAME is the name that appears at the http://image.blobbynet.com/index.php link.
Let me know if you have any problems and your opinions on me doing this. Yes I know this can, and probablly will get out of hand, but that's why I'm going try it first. i can always restrict links to only work if they were viewed on realpoor, but i'd prefer not to do that.

I have an account with http://www.hostsave.com
I get ftp access, and supposedly i can run cgi scripts and do other fancy stuff but im not that good with web stuff. I have the basic plan there.
