Hey, I was trying to piece together what the role of the hunter actually is in a group. All I could really come up with was pullers (not necessary) and soruces of dps. But wouldn a rogue or mage outdamage them pretty easily?

Pets can offtank.
Hunters can track rares to prevent going down an unnecessary tunnel etc. etc.
Hunters mark for more ranged DPS
Very long lasting DPS, sure a rogue could outdamage them in a long battle but hunters have mail so if they get aggro it's less of a problem.

Honestly being a hunter and getting instance groups requires you to have friends on the server. Even though we do good dps, as dps classes go rogues and mages offer more to the group in other utlities they can do.

my pet tanked the princess in BRD while my group fought the emperor and I kept it healed, I'd like to see a rogue tank her and stay alive. Did I mention we did the zone with only Willis as our healer? :p I wish they came up with a way to have our pets assist a specific person, life would be much easier.

hunter pets i see in instances die really fast ;p of course so does everyone else without plate but oh well! mages arent really a dps class, hutners are ok for some things, they arent a bad class they just really dont have a nitch in instances... atleast on the alliance side, maybe on horde without paladins able to be secondary tank having a hunter is more useful.

a:kill everyone else
b:die resulting in everyone else getting killed
c:did i mention a and b ?

Interesting. My pet has been fine off-tanking adds in Uldaman, Zul'Farrack, and Maraudon. What instance are you referring to or what types of pets are you referring to?
I use a raptor and can solo an elite my level easily enough, except for using all my mana.

Hunters Mark is handy for tagging the Main Tank's Target, it helps ensure that everyone is on the same mob. But yeah, Hunters aren't a *needed* class for instances, you pretty much have to have friends on the server.

Thats all hunters mark is good for, seeing as how the main effect doesnt even work yet..
