I’ve heard that there aren’t enough options for customizing your character if you’re human and that there is no difference between characters that come from different parts of Middle Earth. It may not be that important for some, but I think it is a big mistake if this is so. Anyone knows more about this?

You were misinformed. The characters from different lands (Rohan, Bree, Dale, Gondor ) have different looks. You can find some illustrations for male characters here: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/ccolinbackslash/LotRO/HumanMales.jpg and for female try this: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/ccolinbackslash/LotRO/HumanFemales.jpg . But when it comes to abilities, it doesn’t matter which one you choose since they’re all the same.
