I think the 512mb ram will hurt you the most, but you can easily adjust options and should be able to play without any lag. I'd recommend going to the lowest setting (max performance), and slowly adjusting things you consider important up.
As long as you keep shadows and flora off (those are the big performance killers) you should be able to get some settings pretty high up. Best to play around with those settings for a while, there're A LOT of options you can customize.

I played on a tweaked high performance with some flora on with a similar system. Only big difference is a 1.8GHz and 1gb ram. The 1gb ram will really help out and with 256 mb ram on your card you can actually run the high quality textures. Like soriak said though just keep the shadows off. I set flora to sparse and close distance and it wasnt too bad.

they fixed shadows, they don't kill performance like they did before. 1gb of ram is really a necesity, even if you have pimped out everything else, running at the lowest settings you'll still freeze up when you have to start using your HD for virtual mem, which will happen alot in every city zone if you only have 512.
Let me put it this way, it's more playable on my athlon 2100+ with 1gb of 233 ddr and a fx 5600 ultra 128, then a p4 2.8 800 512 ddr 400 dual channel and a x800 pro 256. My system may not run it as smothly, but I never drop down to 1 fps in citys and just hang there for 5secs or so while it swaps on the HD.

1 GB is a requirement, not a recommendation.
sure the game runs on 512, but it runs to where you would not want to play it.
and if you would want to play in freeze frame 1.5 fps, then you're a f*g.

It's not like RAM is expensive.

Next to your ram or lack of your cpu is really bottlenecking that video card.

Yeah... Id just like to disagree here...
I have 512, played on Balanced out in Antonica well enough. In the cities I had to go to High perf but it worked and was very playable.

RDRAM?
I REALLY suggest you get it from Ebay then... buddy picked up 512 for around 180.

Cant or my warrenty could be void. Part of the 3 year warrenty was that I had to buy all my upgrades from them, and they have to install it. So I try to tampor with my computer as less I can.
As long as I dont break the agreement, I can bring back my computer and get a new one even if its my fault it broke. When I get sick of my computer ill just waste some apple juice on it and get a replacment.

I dont know about you but I would find it a pain in the ass to switch settings every time you go in and out of the city.

I don't always have to, the mem does limit me in the respect that if I've been playing a while and zoning through most of the city it will begin to lag alot, but that didn't seem to be as much of an issue near the end of beta
