Lately ive been sort of depressed. I dont believe in drugs to uplift me first off. Is there a way of thinking or mindset to keep that seems to help? Sometimes I really have to force myself to see the better in things. I guess thats it, forcing yourself to see the better in things. Whats one to do when your all out of whatever it is to force yourself to do whatever , think whatever , and feel whatever??????????????

surround yourself with happy people...

if you hang out around overly dramatic, pessimistic, gloomy people- it really rubs off. If you hang out with people who are happy, enjoying life and constantly doing spontaneous things it might get annoying at times, but it will probably leave you feeling happier too

oh, and dont care about what others think about you.

Got a little seasonal affective disorder? So do lots of people during the winter.

Exercise, fresh air, any sun that you can find, eat heatlhy (dont load up with processed foods and crap) stay social and make sure you are working on some goals... anything.. just something that makes you look forward to something.
Oh..and read something cool that you find inspiring. If you're creative... go creative some stuff.

Yeah..thats it.

When I've been depressed in the past I just think about the worst thing I've ever had happen to me and then realize whatever I'm depressed about isn't that bad and usually that lifts my spirits... and when that doesn't work I just play with my nipples... that ALWAYS works... Embarassed

Just give yourself over to the Lord...our Lord...Jesus Christ, and think about how nice Heaven will be. Then kill yourself and wait until it's time to go to Heaven.

I'd definitely agree with the above posters who said to exercise. It really does give you a positive feeling. It's also healthy for you!

Also, check out www.craigslist.org and find someone in your area for a platonic relationship if you are so inclined. Maybe that will help.

To be perfectly honest for awhile I had been feeling quite similar to what you describe and actually thought about posting about it. But Realpoor is such a godawful s****y mess, and... That's it.

Pretty much up until today I was feeling like this... A lot of shit just did not work out correctly in the last couple months, computer I bought with my own $ has problems with it I PAID to make sure wouldn't f*****g happen, at least that is what I thought I PAID for... The upgrades I got for christmas? Problems... Problems, always problems. Seeing my friends back from University not only did not make me feel better, it made me feel like shit just that little bit more knowing I don't get to join them until September. I also have stopped talking to someone who I thought was a good friend, who is being f*****g dodgy as hell right now for whatever reason. I also didn't really want to have anything to do with school, and did the bare minimum work wise getting decent marks, was eating unhealthy, smoking a lot of pot, and feeeling it.

Well today I dunno I woke up, put some aqueous transmissions on and started studying philosophy for an exam I have to take tomorrow. I got more out of reading and making notes today on some chick's notes than I did out of the entire semester... I guess I was reflecting a lot and thinking about all the shit and how it was relevant in my own life, like accepting responsibility, and that jive despite feeling more or less like an existentialist pulling towards nihilism for the last couple months.

I dunno how to lay it all out for you man... When I was scrolling down I felt that if someone had been giving me the advice people have been giving I would have told them to stick it. They are good ideas... But everything has to just come together for you man. You have to be the one who makes the effort to change for the better. Happiness lies within I believe. Don't depend on others to let/make yourself happy. If you are pining away for some b***h, there are like 3 something billion b*****s on the planet; If people (friends, coworkers) f**k with you in any way shape or form, (using you, etc) don't lay down.... If it's your job, or whatever, maybe you need some change.

I dunno man, maybe if you eat right, exercise, and make a genuine effort not to give a f**k about unimportant b******t things will be genuinely better. That's what i'm doing.

EDIT: If this is poorly written, I don't care. It's 2:30am, and i'm going to bed goddamnit.

Try to figure out why - maybe it leads you to the root of your bad feelings, and you can try to work on whatever is making you feel that way.

Also good to be aware of your own thoughts/internal dialogue.
Learn to recognise the 'negative' thoughts, and challenge them (they arent necessarily true a lot of the times).

Take the time and effort to take good care of yourself and treat yourself well. With that I mean: sleep enough, and on a certain schedule, healthy food, exercise is good, make sure you have a good balance of work-relaxation. Take the time every day to do something you really like (a walk outside, reading a book.. whatever).

Meeting new people is probably my best way to get out of a slump. It helps if they are girls but even if it's a new circle of cool friends that you can actually talk to.

Keep busy. Boredom just magnifies depression. Since I returned to school from Winter Break, and got a part time job (30+ hours a week) I just havent had time to sit around and think "Gee, my situation sucks, blah blah blah". The free time I do have on my day off, I don't spend moping because I want to do all the shit I haven't been able to do during the work week.

I think all of the things listed are the best. The bottom line is to keep busy. The more idle time you have, the more you think about "problems". If you keep yourself busy, you have a lot less time to dwell on things. Excercising is the first step. It gets your body in shape and gets you around people. Volunteer. It gets you around people, has you do something that does something positive, and places your own problems in perspective.

I'm prolly clinically depressed.

Quote:
Build a fire a thousand miles away to light my long way home
I ride a comet
My trail is long to stay
Silence is a heavy stone...
I fight the world and take all they can give
There are times my heart hangs low
Born to walk against the wind
Born to hear my name
No matter where I stand I'm alone

Stand and fight
Live by your heart
Always one more try
I'm not afraid to die
Stand and fight
say what you feel
Born with a heart of steel

Burn the bridge behind you
Leave no retreat
There's only one way home
Those who laugh and crowd the path
And cut each other's throats
Will fall like melting snow
They'll watch us rise with fire in our eyes
They'll bow their heads
Their hearts will hang low
Then we'll laugh and they will kneel
And know this heart of steel was
Too hard to break
Too hard to hold

Stand and fight
Live by your heart
Always one more try
I'm not afraid to die
Stand and fight
Say what you feel
born with a heart of steel

Exercise, meditation.

Be mindful of what catalyzes your anxiety or depression. If neither of those are applicable, take note (at the very least) on when your mood shifts into these feelings you wish to avoid. Finding out what exactly initiates negative emotion is a good goal to have.

Not believing in drugs is very noble these days. It's been said time and again that the modern day doctors hand out incredibly dangerous anti-depressants on a whim--SSRIs, Benzodiazapines. Not dabbling in either unless completely necessary is your best bet for the long term.

If you find your friends aren't the people to talk to about serious issues, don't be shy or feel like less of a person by going to a talk therapist. They can recognize serious or not-so-serious problems a lot better than a boozed up friend can--the latter cannot be denied beautiful, belligerant validity, however!

Other than that take the advice of above posters. Get a schedule, a habbit, better your body and mind, do new shit.

If you're still down, find a good doctor to just talk to.

God has a plan for your life, He is alive, and will meet you half way but most people dont take Him at his word. I can tell you Hes alive because He lives in me but the rest is up to you.

I usually just console myself with the belief that things happen for a reason, even bad things. Knowing that, I can somewhat reassure myself that this is the way things are supposed to be and just go on from there. It really is a leap of faith at times, but if I thought otherwise (ie: poor me, why me, blah blah), I'd probably be committed in a psychiatric center by now or else dead Smile

It's the same with people who come in or go out of my life over the years. I believe that we meet people and form relationships with them, even tenuous ones, because we are supposed to learn something from each other. What we learn isn't always evident, though, til years later <shrug>.

I also make sure I keep busy during periods like that in my life...whether you exercise, read voraciously, or do ten other things, do SOMETHING...time passes much more slowly when all you are doing is thinking about "when is this gonna pass?"

I'll echo Mugaazzzz's advice. NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) is a lot of help.

Also, at one of the shittiest points in my life I would listen to "Awaken the Giant Within" by Anthony Robbins. I think I've heard it 43 times.

My MP3 player updates a database with # of times played, and I'm pretty sure it's 43 for a few of the tracks off that set.
