OK, so I downloaded the client for the game, mounted the CD image using Daemon Tools, and now I'm stuck trying to log in/register and create an account, because at this point it suddenly starts asking me for the CD key, which it should've done earlier (if at all). What gives?

What gives is that you're obviously using some sort of a hacked copy of the game, from who knows where, presumably trying to register an account without paying. You won't get assistance for that kind of activity around here, I'm pretty sure the board rules prohibit us form helping you, sorry.
