I really like it so far but some of the boss battles are f*****g hard (Tiamat). You end up spending like 4-5 hours leveling up before some bosses.

It's not bad. It is doing its job of entertaining me, but I've no expectations other than that.
Finigan tells no lies. You've got to work for your victories. Building up your characters and earning gold isn't exactly made easy, either. Well, not so far, anyway.
Fin, how many hours are you in?

Lots and lots of story so far, with not a whole lot of gameplay.
Am only ~3.5 hours in, don't mind me! =P
Seems promising tho.

I'm guessing I'm not that far yet, cause I don't recall that name. Maybe I just don't remember, but I'm about 20 hours in as well at this point. Been levelling a lot also, guess a lot more than I thought.

Hrmmm....
Well, i havent done any "leveling" (i assume you mean xp farming) other than just progressing through the maps as they come.
Tiamat was not hard at all, beat him easily on the 1st try with my characters around level 17-18. You need to learn how to manage your boosts, and get Shion the Boost I ether. Tiamat only does a super powerful attack on his turn if it follows directly after Shion or Jr. The attack after Jr is mostly moot, as it really doesn't do much more damage than his normal attack. You really only have to make sure you don't let him go after Shion or he'll do that group attack that does 250-400 on each character. You also have to let Shion and Jr each get the killing blows on him, or he'll heal 1500hp at death.
My only real disappointment so far is that the AWGS(mechs) are almost completely useless. They do decent attack damage, but you cant heal them in combat in any form. They also cost a ton of cash to upgrade, so mine only have a few more HP than my characters. The Gear battles were nicely done in Xenogears, i was hoping for more of the same

I haven't got Xenosaga yet, but the last title Xenogears was a big hit. This one is also made by the same ppl who made the last one under the Squaresoft title.
Haha get your PS2 modified. For me its 10 bucks a CD game, and 20 bucks a DVD game. If the game looks ok, I buy it! No need to worry about shelling out loot for a game that sucks.

It's actually a dual-layered DVD, not sure what that means in terms of being able to be burnt or not.
It's no Xenogears; comparing it as such only will lead to disappointment in the long run. XG was a game that happened once, and I highly doubt the ability for such a phenomenal game to be topped or equalled. It's a decent game providing a good amount of times worth of entertainment ('promising' 80 hours of gameplay). And, really, what PS2 RPG to date can claim both a decent story and more than a menial amount of hours of gameplay? FFX would be the only one, and I don't know if I'm the only one with this sentiment, but - f**k FFX.
Anyway, I've got a ways to go in the game, and I'm actually not bored to all hell with it yet! That's a first for a PS2 RPG title for me.

$20 a DVD game? why so much? What the hell kinda blank media are you using? rofl. Runs me around $8 a DVD game. $5 for renting the game at blockbuster, and $3 for a blank Verbatim DVD-R. Have a Messiah2 chip in my PS2. No swap.
As for Xenosaga, yep, it's DVD9 (dual layer)... THE First PS2 game to do so, and more to come. Big time blow to us mod chip users.

Im with Dyloc..wtf 20 bucks per DVDR? Where you buyin these? Fleamarket of the dumbasses?
Im hoping you meant you buy the cd games and the dvd games already burnt..otherwise, WTF again.
Dyloc, did you burn Xenosaga? the game is a DVD-9, so when it was released all the CG cutscenes are drastically downsampled..I h8 DVD-9.

Uhhh...you ppl like to flame before you understand the whole situation.
Of course I'm buying the freaking games already burned for $20! I'm not stupid enough to pay $20 for a blank freaking DVDr or Cd-R for that matter....geeze. As in I go to a store that sells burned CD-R/Dvd-R PS2 games. That's probably about $14-$15 American...which isn't too bad considering a legit copy costs $74.99 here and after tax it comes out to around $90 a game..
"Fleamarket of the dumbasses? "
Again "d*****s", don't make premises before you know the facts. Wow I feel really honoured to have 3 people post a reply just to flame me, even though I never specified if the games were already burned or not....Hey Storme, go play Kingdom Hearts instead, I think the game is more suited for your age level. Gee I even specified my PS2 was modified, of course I'm buying the games pre-burned. What am I gonna do? Buy blank CD/DVD and burn the games myself? Why am I going to waste my own time when I can pay someone else to do it. Its the same logic why people pay Storme $6.85 to serve them fries. I mean sure the fries costs $1-$2 at the supermarket, but why fry them yourself when they can hire someone like you to be their b***h for the day.

I didn't flame you. I just asked why so much.. seemed odd. lol
| Quote: | | What am I gonna do? Buy blank CD/DVD and burn the games myself? |
Hell yeah. My DVD burner is probably the greatest investment I've ever made for my computer. It's paid for itself 10x over already. No more buying DVD Movies.. rent it, like it, burn it. No more buying PS2 games at $60 a pop. Rent it, like it, burn it.
It's also great for backups, storage, and burning movies I download. Hell, LOTR:TTT is still in theaters, but I have it on DVD. Downloaded the screener, converted it to DVD, burnt it, watched it last night on my standalone DVD player and 47" Widescren HDTV, looked amazing, like I bought the DVD from the store. My new addiction now, finding DVD Screeners of yet to be released movies to download.. rofl

how much does an external PS2 mod chip cost? I have a burner... and after reading this post, I got the idea to burn all the PS2 games I have and sell them back to GameStop for some $$

Omfg are you really this stupid? You assume that he was just talking about a Dvdr when he clearly stated Dvdr game. Read before you make yourself look like a d*****s any futher.

There are a bunch of "No Solder" MODS out there for the PS2, but to be honest they all suck ass. They require swaping disks to boot, and don't work with alot of games. Most are like $30-40
Your best bet is to go with the Messiah2 chip. The Magic 3.x chips are ok, but I see posts all the time with people having problems with them.
Of course these chips require soldering, and the points are very small. If your not experienced you will most likely f**k up your PS2. Try to find someone in your area who will do it. I paid $55 for my Messiah2 chip and $35 to have someone install it.
check out http://psxforum.com
lotsa good info on burning games, modchips, etc. And they have Buy/Sell forums where you can find people who do installs, etc. Where I found the guys who did mine.

Uhh... Wouldn't it be a lot more intelligent to just download the game and burn it for 2 dollars?

Ah. Another incarnation of good ol Tiamat! Tarew Marr would never let me pick that name, even back in 2000. I got it on the FV server, but I never play there.
Please don't move this thread to another forum!
