I've done the command line removal thing.
I've done the editing the file in windows. But I can't uncheck messenger in add/remove.
I did something else too, none of these have worked.
Help pelase.

I just learned to deal with it on startup, then I shut it down and am done with it. Only shut down my PC when bad storms are around, rest of the time it's up, so I guess that's one of the reasons it dosn't bother me to much.

Theres a way to do it, I just forgot how, it's like embedded in your computer... but there is a way to do it.
Did you try selective start up -> do not load startup applications?

If you mean Messenger
- Go in Control Panel
- Administrative Tools
- Services
- Then select messenger, select disable and not active at startup
If you mean MSN Messenger
- Go on My Computer, Program Files, the MSN Messenger folder and just delete the .exe
Messenger is those annoying pop ups that appear (University diplomas, etc.)... it's active by default in XP Professional. MSN Messenger is the IM service.

Side note: If you want to still have MSN, delete it and install an alternative IM that you can control, ie, Gaim (which I highly recommand) or Trillian (which is ok also). Both support MSN Messenger.
