Let's not get all misty eyed about how special and consecrated marriage is in America, because that's a joke. Marriage may have been that way at one point, but society evolved (or devolved) and now it's not nearly as strong a ritual as it used to be.
And this comment: "it's not just a title you get to carry around and have rings put on your fingers, it's something deeper"...is just plain ignorant. Are you an ignorant person? Does anyone actually believe that man/woman love is somehow deeper than the love that two gay people might have for each other?
This is the last bastion of hope for bigots. They aren't allowed to pick on other races anymore...

Why don't you compare the number of marriages that actually last "until death" to the ones that end within 5 years, then tell me how special marriage is for those "deeply in love"?
Yes yes. They were all married under God, He blessed their holy commitments and Welcomes them to Heaven someday, because marriage is special, more important, reserved for a man and a woman.
In other words, "waa waa! gays can't marry because then they'll be closer to acceptance. think of some excuse!"
Why don't you people stop dancing around the politics and just come out and say that you don't like gays and be done with it! I'm sure the Germas had viable reasons to slaughter millions of jews, gypsies, etc. Oh wait. Maybe they just didn't like them and didn't want to come out and say it.
Sorry, got off track. I'll just wait for Bush to bomb San Francisco or whatever to solve this national crisis.

different issue, a black not being able to marry the woman of his choice who is above the age of consent was wrong. A gay not being able to marry the woman of his choice above the age of consent is wrong, a gay not being able to marry the man of his choice just like all other members of society arent allowed to have same **** marriages is fair.
Really do you not grasp the difference? Marriage isnt given to you as a right to marry whoever you love deeply and want to be with, otherwise we would have to make legal polygamy and many other things that i wont even go into.

i could really care less about incest. the only reason i think it is considered wrong is that it can lead to genetic disorders because of inbreeding. if not that, im assuming it says it is wrong somewhere in the bible and that is why lawmakers have made it illegal.
that still doesnt give me a reason why same **** marriages are wrong.

incest is psychologically damaging to the individuals involved. It can cause birth defects. It weakens family ties. Being homosexual does NONE of this and gay marriage won't change that. <3 booker

I'm not going to bother rehashing every point of this debate over again. On the internet, I have no way to disprove your obvious belief that anyone that disagrees with you is a bigot. Beyond the closemindedness of it, it's incredibly arrogant to believe that the only way I can disagree with you is if I'm a bigot. The attempt to link me or anyone else that agrees with me to the Nazis is way over the line, even for Realpoor.
Consider, for just one moment, that for most of the country, this is a question of marriage values and not one of equal rights. If the country truly hated gays as much as so many of you believe, civil unions would not even be a question. You would get nothing. Period. Yet most people are in favor of civil unions because most people are reasonable enough to realize that it is unfair to exclude gays from marriage benefits. Yeah, that sounds like a bunch of bigots to me.
