Does anyone have a good review site for home audio gear? Receivers, speakers etc?
Thanks in advance.

Home audio is totally different from car audio. You get what you pay for in the case of home audio.

A true audophile knows this isnt always true. Case in point Monster Cable.

You don't need to be an audiophile to know that decent gauge lamp cord will do the trick and that monster cable is a scam. I used to chuckle at the guys who would spend hundreds on their monster or oracle cable to wire up their fused speakers....

Agreed on the Sony, though for a lot of people, it's good enough for a low end system. What's your beef with Onkyo? A bad experience? Onkyo has pretty good stuff and a pretty good reputation and is generally comparable to Denon.

If you're pushing too many watts over normal wire, you will see a loss.
I don't see many home stereo systems that actually need monster cables, but alot of car audio systems do.

I would assume that would be more for the shielding for the EMI/Noise more than anything, yes?

a decent lamp cord ok for audio hook up?
you're kidding right? You've never really tested that theory have you?
Onkyo...yeah the stuff is OK for an average sound but if you want GOOD quality audio, stay away from it.
At that price point, a Sherwood Newcastle will sound significantly better. We carry Onkyo. It's the brand we carry when the installers want cheap crap to put in cause the customer is too dumb to notice the difference.
Our entire audio system is run with either Monster or Ixos cables, it helps that I get the stuff basically free and have spools of it in the basement
The sound difference was noticable when the wiring was finished, seriously improved.
Xarp will back me up on the quality in our livingroom. *grin*

I was referring to the competition stereo systems actually.
when you're pushing 1000 watts over a single channel, speaker wire aint gonna cut it.

The Carsound forums have pro's in both the 12 volt and 120 volt industry.
Make a few posts there (in the proper areas) and see what kind of responces you get. 9 out of 10 will say to stay away from Bose, though.

Never having been in the position to work with a system such as you describe, much less wanting to own one, I'll have to take your word for this. I'd guess the market penetration of these class of systems would be exceptionally small, and that Monster cable, if it does make sense in these situations, doesn't not make sense for the vast majority of MOR and high end systems out there.

What you're refering to is ONLY in a subwoofer situation. Standard mid to high range speakers can not handle the power that is 1000 watts. (that of course being a thermal rating). You'd just melt the voice coils.
Again though, standard speaker wire (I usually go 12 guage) works fine for subs. They *only* play 20-100 Hz range (though some people prefer to take them all the way to 200-250 range, for some reason), and it's not exactly a clear sound. That's why the amps that produce such power are known as Class D. They're Very very effective at producting power, but at the same time sounding VERY bad in the process. If you ran standard mid's & high's on a mono-block amp it would become a garbled mess of ass.
Yeah!
