I can bet you if they do the venom story it will be based off the story for the 90's spiderman cartoon not the orignal.
Here's a quick rundown of both.
Comic Venom story, Spidy goes on the secrect wars with the other toons and finds the alien that forms on him into a new suit.
The cartoon venom story J J Jamersons son is nasa pilot and finds a strange rock on the moon that when exposed to radition or something is stronger then 100 nukes and all you need is a small chip of it. kingpin finds out about the rock and sends rhino to get it. While on the moon J Jr. also finds the alien in goo form and takes it on board, it gets out attacks the crew the shuttle crashes in new york on a bridge. Spidy goes to help runs in rhino they duke it out the alien sticks to spider and so it begins.
The cartoon story is very possible for a movie where the comic books is not so mark my works thats how it will go down maybe minus the nuke rock.

Multiple super-villians is what typically ruins superhero movies. Character development gets thrown right out the window and the films seem 'cluttered.'

Well despite Bullseye being a lame villain overall, having both him and the kingpin worked okay in Daredevil. In spiderman though, there are enough interesting characters where you dont need 2 villains. You could sort of count Harry as a villain I guess, since hes out to kill spiderman.

yeah but I just have this feeling that they are making harry's devolpment as a villiain will be as interesting as Lex's in smallville

I liked the original Spider-man the first time I saw it...but everytime after I thought it sucked, wouldn't be suprised if I didn't see this.

The CGI for venom/carnage storyline would cost so much of their budget, I bet that's why they didn't go with it. Lizardman was said to be in the next one (Dr. Connor), I always thought of both he and Dr. Oct as much weaker villains however. The birdman would be horrible as well, the only old school villain worth a damn was hobgoblin. Electro was decent, Rhino was a joke as were most of the others :/

Funny how Spidey was SO MUCH more powerful than most of his enemies and most of the X-Men's enemies are more powerful than them by far .. heh

Peter Parker is a nerdly little fruit that got bit, cried about it and now he shoots white goop out of multiple orifices. The Xmen have a cool plane. Nuff said.

Spiderman sucks. The only way to make me see a Spiderman movie would be if it was about Venom.
Anyways, it's only a matter of time before we get a Silver Surfer movie. That would f*****g own.
