this is nickleback...

these are TWO different songs, played in stereo, one song is played in the right speaker, and the other in the left speaker...

they are 2 different songs, on 2 different albums...

every punch, every verse, every chorus, every bridge, every intro, and outro are identical...

go go gadget musical formula

f*****g bastards! i hate the music industry Sad if it wasn't for the massive amounts of money and hot women, i wouldn't aspire for my band to ever make it!

edit: spelling

1. No they are not the same
2. They are similar though
3. But perhaps that's because it's the same person singing.
4. I bet if you put together a lot of Beatles songs you couldn't tell them apart either.

yeah, it is true though. The song starts the same, and has various parts that are the same throught, but the whole of the music is different.

I could clearly hear different riffs coming through left and right speaker at a lot of times, but it's funny.

neat I guess.

Naw, they were sync'ed wit ha specific program. I can tell by just listening to it raw. Someday was sped up by afew decimeters.

You're right about the cord progressions though. They're extremely similar. Most of the breaks occur on the 4th set of each verse. Thats why they sound the same.

I still like nickelback though, (they kick ass in concert btw krath). Lots of energy. I saw them with Saliva awile back. I guess it all boils down to musical pref.

Don't bash the musical formula, bash the artist for not deviating from the formula enough to give us songs with a distinct and different sound.

The fact is, the formula works...it just takes creative talent to go in several different directions with your music. Sometimes we get these one hit wonders and they disappear, because they can't think of anything else to come up with. They go away gracefully at least...

Some artists continue to spew the same shit out over and over and with seemingly little to no remorse for the fact that they are being f*****g lazy and not breaking the mold.

This reminds me of two songs from Pantera. Mouth for the War and Drag the Water. Both hold same beat and verse rotation. But further more they share the same word rythem as well. Also both did fairly well on the metal charts.

if you study music a lot like I do, you will learn that practically all pop songs are the same. You also get past having an issue with it. It is what it is.

I bet you could list the number of REALLY popular groups that dont follow this formula on one hand.

lets see:
rush (shudder)
pink floyd
tori amos
dave mathews (sp)

and lots of electronic, which followd either a pop formula or a classical formula.

its not so much chords, of course they couldn't pass off the exact same song twice...but its the exact same amount of verses choruses etc etc, and furthermore the verses and choruses are all the same length, all kicking into the next part at the exact same time.

traditionally its intro verse chorus verse bridge chorus outro

thats a typical pop, metal song right there...but man..these 2 songs are insanely alike...on seperate albums lol

and i must disagree with you about bashing the musical formula...if people broke the musical formula more often, we get more of the great bands...Led Zeppelin, supertramp, Rush, even guys like Eminem, and missy elliot, as much as i don't like either of they're music, they veer away from the formulas, and if not create a new genre, or new techniques, they pave the way for other artists to travel upon them.

why we're stuck in the britney spears, christina aguilera, backstreet boy phase, is because this damn musical formula works too well on the ignorant masses...now, being ignorant about music and the business is not in anyway a bad thing, and i am in NO way talking down to anyone...but the fact remains that labels and artists can get away with passing off an extremely similar song off twice, is because people aren't musically trained, that being said, people who really care about music, and its progression, and the business care about this formula, because it infrignes upon what we can do as musicians, we have to somehow be creative but also fit in the machine.

anyway...blah

Totally hear you on that...but I tend to go with lotek on this and I feel that even with the basic formulas you can create musical masterpieces. You just need to use your head a little more, but there really are only so many ways you can use the same formula before people start noticing the similarities. So you do have a good point..

When you start breaking the formula like I mentioned before, I guess you end up with a new, different formula altogether, but having the basic foundations laid out with a the easy and practical formula helps start on the road to creating new formulas.

If you can just outright come out with your own formulas out of nowhere, then you are truly TRULY gifted, and I am a firm believer that only the truly gifted should be played on the radio, and not the same old drab shit that follows the same basic rules of music composition that they play all day, every day..to bore the f*****g SHIT out of anyone who doesn't own a tape or CD player in their car.

Thank god I bought one, otherwise I would have gone insane...

"Figured you out" is a stupid song. It must be on 35 times a day. The only song played more than that one is any song by Jett.
