When I plug the thing in nothing happens.. it was updating this morning, but when I plugged it in to recharge tonight it wouldn't move. Any suggestions? I've rebooted a million times now and tried doing the whole disconnect here / reconnect here dance, nothing's working. If I reinstall won't I lose my music library?
Any suggestions?

Sometimes mine won't update if I have the botton lock on. I havent updated any music on it in a long time so I can't remember if that is supposed to happen or not.
If you reinstall it shouldn't take away your music. When uninstalling it should ask what you want to do with the files in your library.

I'd try uninstalling iTunes and then re-installing it. That won't affect your actual music files, but you may have to re-add them to your library. Backup your iTunes library file if that's a big deal for you.
Silly question, but perhaps your iPod is updated and there's nothing for iTunes to do? Or is it simply not detecting your iPod when you plug it in?

Try MLiPOD? I don't like iPods, but a friend of mine loves the plugin.

Thanks.. I got it to work.. I just had to format the handheld. What a pain. Looks like some files on the computer side corrupted, probably when I turned on my external hard drive and it reassigned drive letters.. I hate it when Windows does that.

In any case, were you using firewire or USB? If you have a firewirse PCI card the ipod tends to f**k them up, and it won't recognize the ipod. You can just reinstall the drivers for the card and it will work again.

No, just USB2. My mobo has a firewire port but WinXP has s****y FW support so I never bothered installing it.
