I don't know a lot of Spanish, but I kept thinking that place in Florida where hurricane Charlie hit: "Punta Gorda", was Spanish for "fat w***e". That can't be right, can it?

I believe it means "fat point".

edit: according to babel fish: "fat end". I believe you were thinking "puta gorda".

I'm a little rusty, as seen from my "puta/punta" faux pas. But I believe "gallo peso novia abrazo" means "drinking one-peso jug wine results in new abrasions".

*edit* or maybe what Scoresia said. Sometimes there are nuances of these translations that elude me.

I'm rusty too, but I thought that would mean "Chicken weight new hugs".

Actually novia is girlfriend and bride not fiancé. As far as I know fiancé is technically "comprometida" which is funny because one of the ways to translate that into English is "compromised" which has interesting connotations.

abrazo has another meaning that's used less often. It actually also means a scrape, a cut, think of the word abrasive. It has the same etymological roots.

Best double-meaning word in Spanish has to be embarazada. Similar I guess to comprometida.

Well my only advice is to keep in mind that Spanish utilizes many functions which are non-existent in English. Some of the ones that stick out in my mind are:

-- All words are masculine, feminine or neuter.
-- Accusative pronouns are masculine, feminine or neuter.
-- Many verbs have a reflexive form in addition to the regular form of the verb in the infinitive. "comer" vs "comerse"
-- There are no apostrophes in [Mexican] Spanish, but there are contractions. Good luck with that one Smile

I don't care if I suck at Spanish. I just want to be able to get to the airport, order food, and tip the waiters.

What's the double meaning?

To the best of my knowledge embarazada only means pregnant. Embarrased is "apenada" coming from "pena" (shame)
