If anyone is willing to take the time need some advice please.I have like 1500 dollars to play with and not sure if I can buy a better pre built system or If i would get more for my money building it myself. The only real site I know of is newegg so if anyone can direct me to other sites or some info where I could get the best deal for my money on a pre built system would be much appreciated.

www.mwave.com if you want to mess around with configurations and prices. Or just get a 1500$ dell. http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/dimen_xps4?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

Go to smaller sites, you can get a pre-built one for more or less the same money. And get a warranty. Leave computer building to people who know they can do it, not think they can do it.

Ya, but if you "think" you can that means you can't.

any machine you buy prebuilt you can build for about 50% of the cost of it. anyone who has the ability to build or someone to build it for them is doing nothing but throwing money away if they buy pre-built.

biggest reason for that is you aren't paying 50% of the cost for the s****y software that comes preinstalled. $1000 prebuilt = $500-600 in hardware and $400-500 in software.

This isn't true anymore. In fact you can save money on pre-built systems now, especially bare-bones. When people like you say you can save 50% that's only true if you got a SPECIFIC piece of hardware you want for each piece and then need to pay "upgrade" costs. If your goal is maximum pc for your dollar, find a smaller company offering great deals, buy a bare bone, then hunt for the optional things you want.

Most pre-built systems have s****y parts like mobos with s****y chipset.

Plus building a system is easy as f**k. Unless your a idiot that buys shit that's not compatible.

Like buying pc100 ram for a mobo that needs pc2100 and so on.

My friend got a DELL PC for xmas and it uses RD RAM he spent so much money to go from 256 to 1gig because his ram costs a shit load on most sites. He ended up buying some from a guy on Ebay.

How many people asking this question even know what a chipset is.

This is true! I normally build my own.(been doing this for over 10 years) But this year I bought a dell after pricing everything I wanted I ended up about the same as a high end dell like 300 dollars less. But on the bright side I have a warrenty that last 3 years and they will come and fix anything that goes wrong with even it if it nights or on the weekend. Only thing I had to give up that I wanted was SLI but hell do you really want to spend over 1k for 2 video cards... =P But dell running a great deal now 20percent off Wink

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com

I ordered a comp from these guys around a year ago. Very well priced and I haven't had a single problem with it at all. I'd at least check them out.

I used to build my own. I checked my prices and found that it only cost me 50 dollars more to let these guys do it for me. I have ordered three computers from them and they have all been great machines. It is really nice to get a new computer, plug it in and it work right out of the box. They test them and run them through a burn process before they ship it to you.

Honestly building a PC is really easy now a days. The hardest part is putting the wires to connect the case to the motherboard, my fingers are to damn big!!!

In all honestly it takes so little time now a days to make a machine that it's a crime to give money away to other people. I do price checks online then we have a computer fair every weekend that travels in CT, Mass and RI. They normaly beat the price of NewEgg and other sites by a few dollars.

Just built myself a nice machine like a month ago, it's a killer, and I built it for like 600 dollars, and honestly everything inside the machine is a name brand and not some generic peice of shit. This is the third machine I built for myself, and I have built others for other people over the years as well.
