New standards proposed for the EU go way beyond any prior attempts at censorship and thought police. Do we have former Nazis and Communists running the EU now? This is just plain scary if this proposed law passes:

A law to ban **** discrimination, with implications for the media, advertising and insurance industries, is in the final stages of preparation in the European Commission.
The draft is one of the most ambitious pieces of EU social legislation. It would stop television programmes that stereotyped women and ban advertising that did not "respect human dignity". It would also force insurance companies to stop using gender as the basis for calculating insurance premiums or pension annuity rates.
The law would apply to most areas of **** discrimination outside the workplace, where strict laws already apply. The draft, seen by the Financial Times, would cover education, welfare benefits and even areas of national tax policy.
The paper, drawn up by Anna Diamantopoulou, the EU social affairs commissioner, has already been watered down and is likely to be further diluted.
The European insurance industry is lobbying against the proposal and the commission's legal team has been studying its implications. The commission has just completed its internal discussion of the paper. The internal market, trade and competition commissioners have expressed concern.
The draft says that while respecting freedom of expression, **** discrimination and affronts to human dignity should be banned from media and advertising.
An explanatory note says: "The purpose of this provision is to avoid throughout all forms of mass media all stereotypical portrayals of women and men, as well as any projection of unacceptable images of men and women affecting human dignity and decency in advertisements."
The legislation would be open to interpretation in the courts but could apply to many television shows and advertisements where women are portrayed as **** objects.
Perhaps the biggest effect would be on the insurance industry where gender is often used to calculate risk. Under the proposal, women could end up paying more for car insurance but less for health insurance. Retirement annuities, which are paid on a higher annual rate for men because of their shorter life expectancy, would be equalised.
Ms Diamantopoulou had wanted the law to cover issues such as the banning of women from some gentlemen's clubs.
If the full commission approves the draft, it will be subject to debate and final approval by the European parliament and member states.

Definately will hurt insurance companies and advertising heh. My insurance is about 70 a month less than my brother's just for the fact I'm female, I'm sure that would bother responsibly driving males :\.

This is all absolute horseshit..
the end result for humanity at this rate, is to be born and stamped with a bar code and given a number.
that is the only future i see with stuff like this coming out all the time. The absolute destruction of individuality and expression. Which is what this stuff boils down to, although it has a good intention maybe.. but thats what it will come to. =P

And that's why the EU (a governement designed and run by leftists) is censoring their populus. Wake up. Liberals are about thought control, not free speech. Gay right is not about equality, it's about controlling your opinions on homosexuality through legislation. Gender equality is the same. Environmentalist put out a bag of lies in order to scare you away from SUV's, which represent class differences more than anything else. I can't think of any conservative-supported issues that promote thought control on the level of liberals.

Where's Eduin to stand up for the EU and making it illegal to say anything that's not nice?
I think the EU should be careful not to alienate the US too much. They will need our help in a couple decades when their economy collapes. On the other hand we help out Russia and they weren't exactly nice to us.
