OK, so I'm a wee bit confused by all these different harvesting classes and what each one does. I think I get the foreman and the reaper, and their differences, but what the other two are about is still a mystery to me. Can someone clear this mess up for me and explain what exactly the point is of the gleaner and prospector.

Well, it's like the difference between foreman (quality) and reaper (quantity, only on a different field. The gleaner focuses on developing secondary and tertiary sources, while the prospector is all about exploiting the main one.
