Just bought this yesterday afternoon off the plane back from Germany abd finished it this evening. Remarkably, Rowling has continued the path of each book being substantially more enjoyable and exciting than the previous one.
I really didn't expect to enjoy the series and admittedly the first two books were fairly so so, decent but nothing to really indicate why they'd sold 2 zillion copies. However, the 5th one is an absolute classic.
Not wanting to give away any spoilers, it's hard to really talk in much depth about it but this in general terms, the characters become much deeper (as they were in book 4 but now it's taken further), the twists are now a lot less predicable and the vividness of the story-telling is excellent. There is still the usual obvious, mention this spell or that gadget and you know it *will* feature in the finale remains but she's also stretching this between books now and becoming more obscure in many cases.
If you're thinking of waiting till the paperback is out, don't. I would imagine it will become impossible to avoid the spoilers (if it isn't already) and I'd say it is much better to read it now and suffer the awkwardness of Hardback just to get the most from the story.
Regards,
Eduin

it was definately a great book
the first half took me a few days because of having no time and the fact that you have to read through the annoying/frustrating "coming of age" emotions/ego stuff (wont mention details.. you get the point- it was still very good though), but during the second half i couldnt put the book down.
Awesome book, i recommend it to all of you (even those of you who think your "too cool" to read a book like Harry Potter. Dont say your opinions on the book if you havent read it- its like all those people who say they dont like roller coasters then you ask them if they've ever been on one and they say no. Read the book... THEN make judgements)

I am 300 pages in, and she really has done well. It's like each book is made for a child one year older than the last book.
Imagine the first book being for 11 year olds, the second for 12, etc. Also, it's nice to see Harry not taking anymore shit from anyone.

I just want to laugh at all the people who spent a night camping out infront of book stores so they could get their copy 5 hours earlier then some one who was willing to wake up the next day and get a copy ^^

Actually I'm grateful that my friend spent 45 minutes camping out in front of a bookstare at midnight and then read it in one day so he could give it to me - it came in handy during my six hour flight to the west coast last night, diverting my attention from the The Family Of Four Shrieking Hell-Spawn Children Under Four With Parents Who Just Beamed At Them behind me, and Foreign Farting Man in front of me.
Only got about 300 pages into it, but so far so good; it's pretty entertaining...
