So do a few tens of millions of other people, what's your point? Nowhere in the world is Woman's Day celebrated more enthusiatically than Russia. It's a very important day to them, to the point where the holiday is actually almost considered a "Russian holiday"
So there.
You should also speak multiple languages. In my opinion, everyone should.

Why? Half of the world's languages are already dying because English is becoming a super-language.

My point was made in my first statement.
The first International Women's Day was declared by a socialist party. I'm not suprised it's so celebrated in Russia. It's a bunk holiday. It stems from feminism and women's rights.

yeah you're right.. it's "citizeness" it's what they used to call each other in soviet times. Prazdnikom is just "be happy!"
I love the way they communicate "You will be happy whether you like it not."

By definition nothing is useless. That's only a matter of perception. It's like people who learned Sindarin or whatever. It won't get them a hot new job or anything but nothing is inherently useless. Otherwise it wouldn't exist.
edit : I meant knowledge-wise, nothing is useless. Nuclear fallout MAY be useless, but nothing you apply yourself to learn is.

Of course there are useless things. That's why a word exists to describe uselessness. But for your sake I'll say that a particular foreign language, like Russian, has only minimal use. Therefore using one's time to learn Russian when that time could be used much more optimally by learning something else makes learning Russian as foolish as learning Klingon.

I'm stunned that someone who is as much into business and politics as you considers a language spoken by 160 million people across the world, (English being spoken by about 300 million) as something of minimal significance.
Learning a language isn't just about learning how to converse with people of other backgrounds, that's far too liberal a concept for you. Learning other languages gives you insight into people's cultures as well, and understanding why people do some of the things they do. In an era of global economies and international business, and in a country with a very troubled infrastructure, I can't possibly understand how you could compare it to Klingon, which is a pasttime at best.
You don't really think Condoleezza Rice got to where she is by writing the Russians or their language off as insignificant, do you?

Russia is a third word country. English is the international language of business. The Russian language isn't of minimal significance...but it is to Americans (unless you plan on going to Russia...which isn't really recommended these days). The odds of having to speak Russian are about as good as having to speak Klingon. Learning another Western language makes sense for some, but by no means "should" expend the time learning another language.
And English is spoken by far more than 300 million. There are 300 million Chinese alone studying it.

ESL speakers are the whole point because they speak English and make learning their language "useless".

Nahualli you forgot a very basic fact in your claim that English is spoken as a primary language by about 300 million people. That is roughly the US population. Now add Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia to that list.
