I've only played just shy of 12 hours so far, but through 3 whole chapters I'd say it's as good or close to Disgaea. On the plus side, it's a whole lot easier to level characters in Makai Kingdom than it was in Disgaea.

Yeah. That's what I abhor about NI games--the grind. I can accept it in MMOs, but when it comes to single player console titles I just can't stomach it. I mean, I have memories of levelling/transmigrating Laharl fifty times over in Cave of Trials 3. After that I just put that game down.
But neither Phantom Brave nor La Pucelle Tactics have really captured me--in terms of both story and game mechanics--as much as Disgaea.
I'll definitely check out MK then, mainly because it might pull the usually NI price drop.~

Yeah, I put down Disgaea and haven't touched it since, after going through transmigrating everyone once, and getting them back up to a decent level, I just had no desire to play it anymore.
One thing that helps is you can summon in the Acadamy building with adds an extra 50% exp to anyone you dispatch from it, and from what I've read, you can with a little work, get up to a 50x bonus for mana/exp gained. Not that far in yet, and my highest char is only lvl 41, so I'll just have to wait and see if it's just as easy later.
I really miss the item world tho, it gave you something to do instead of grind levels, and still improve your characters. Random dungeons are nice and all, but all they really get you is more level grinding with more loot thrown in.
I'm hoping Generation of Chaos turns out to be decent, and that we'll actually see a US Release for it. Interested to see how a squad-based game from NI will be.

Not so much anymore, but it really use to p**s me off. Same with anytime I want to play 1v1, I get some idiot kid who will get one or two kills up, hide/run away, while going nuts over the voice comm. "Owned, you suck, newb, haha, etc, etc, etc." I still keep going back to 1v1 when I'm bored tho, every now and then you'll get a really great match, and they'll acknowledge it without being complete idiots.
Is the ranked system still full of complete a******s? I remember for a few months when it first game out, I played with a crew consistently, and got ranked up into the mid-30s, and it would seem like everyone we played had to be the sterotypical "12-year old" if they were winning.

I don't hear sore winners often anymore. Mostly it's my brother cursing out the other team when he's losing. He only plays 1v1 when he tells someone they suck, blah blah, and 'you'd get owned in one on one' and sometimes they'll play head to head.

Especially those f*****s that have that shit timed. Not even a quarter second from the plasma landing does a battle rifle bullet hit and kill you.
