Anyone else buying it over steam?
I'm amazed at the downloading speed i'm getting considering the preload was intiated only an hour ago and i've downloaded 1.02 gb in under an hour.

it's because nobody uses steam and it will go belly up in short order
i think this is it's "make it or break it" project, built for HL2 after all this time

Actually, Steam has one of the largest playerbases. Thanks to shitastic games like CounterStrike. With Steam being the only way you will be able to play CS:S, DoD:S and other Source ports (heh and HL2 sp itself..) despite how horrible people say Steam is (shrug I've never had a problem with it) it will be around for a very long time. Valve killed WON support to besure of that.

I quit CS when Steam came out as well because it was just a total shitfest. I tried it again this week and it's gotten a lot better, but I still miss the v1.3 days.

I never got into HL or CS .. I kind of went from doom/quak/quake2 to not playing shooters until BF:1942 came out. Dunno why.. CS just never seemed too interesting.

See, things like All Seeing Eye, Gamespy3D/Arcade and other game browsers.. still technically go through Steam ;p You can't get rid of it! Steam is the front end to those games Your Steam account/ID and whatnot is still accessed. You can't escape it Paco, it will find you!

f**k that I miss the beta .2 through .4 days. It had some of the best maps ever like the GoldenEye Facilty map and there was a badass desert type map and Docks.. omfg. After that CS map design got total ass, and everything screams Dust and Aztec.
