I'm thinking of pre-ordering it tomorrow since it's going to be a free MMORPG and kinda interested in it. Just not sure if it's worth getting since I'm into EQ2.

Might as well. It's not like you'll fall behind becasue you can get free mercaneries. Plus you can play it without paying any money when you get bored.

It's going to be like Diablo 2 w/o the long term suck.

I think it'll be great for a few years =)

But in no way a replacement for a real RPG.

Decided to get it, but not gonna pre order it. I'm using the rest of my spare money first on a new video card, my Radeon 9700 is about to hit the scrap heap and going to try to find a way to get me a Nvidia 6800GT 128mb card if I can find one around 250ish, but things not looking too good on that price, least I can find a 6800 GT version is almost right at 300 bucks mark, bit too much than I can afford after they add in the tax and not to mention the shipping charges. Really gonna hate to honestly, but might have to stick with a 6600GT and heard it's not much a big improvement over to the 9700 I have, but again have to get one soon, video card's about to pass out, hehe. Too much EQ2 and Doom 3 at nearly everything maxed out I think is what caused it to break down.

I'm really curious to see how they're going to afford bandwidth without a monthly fee.

Same, but they're the people originally behind battle.net so won't be that much suprised.

It's obvious that no one on this thread has a single clue about the game!

Except Iyam, _maybe_.

Thus why I posted, I wanted to know if it's going to be worth getting or not. Figured it is since it's going to be a free MMORPG. Once I get my GeForce 6800GT next month and get all my bills taken care of, I'm getting GuildWars to play when I'm bored and not interested in getting on eq2.

Oh, to add a little more substance: As much as I'd like another totally clueless and easy to kill person, I think that someone who struggled with the easiest mmorpg on the planet isn't really cut out for this.

This isn't an RPG, it's a PvP game. It shouldn't take ANYONE longer than a week to hit level 20 and have decent gear if they read up on the game and how to play it. From then on it's all PvP in the form of either Organised Teams, Random Teams or Guild vs Guild.

Here's a couple sites to start with if you're really interested in looking for information. If you want to be spoon fed look elsewhere!

http://www.gwonline.net (seems to be down at the moment)

I am just wondering how they can possibly afford thousands of gigs in data transfer per month without charging a monthly fee.

The box sale is the same cost as any other mmorpg, $49.99 for basic, 79.99 for collector's edition.

We all know that mmorpgs don't -really- need to charge $15 per month for mmorpgs, hell they don't even need to charge $10 per month. So that is 5-8 months from the box sale paid for, and then they are planning to release optional expansion packs quarterly for something like $20-30 so it will all work out as the same cost as a normal MMORPG, yay!

Not to mention that they're also riding on the back of the creator of the two biggest mmorpgs on earth and several other smaller mmorpgs which are also turning large profits.

How else do you think they could afford to run something like 10 World Preview Events (If you knew that these happened!) where people downloaded the entire client over the course of the weekend, totalling over 500-900mb for most people all totally free.

Ofcourse I don't work for Arena.Net or NCSoft so I can't say if any of this is true, it's all speculation but I do know that the way they have built it is secure so in conclusion, yay!!! *HUGS*

I disagree strongly with this. But since none of us are employees in the HR or financial divisions of any published MMORPGs it is all speculation.

What's getting more expensive? The price of computer hardware is getting cheaper if anything. How would you justify the increase in cost across the board for all mmorpgs following suit with WoW and other's charging $15?

Was there any other way to PvP other than the Arena?

wow provides content for the $15 a month..

and not all computer hardware is getting cheaper, home pc yes... Server class stuff not really..Depends on what you get.

Also you must factor in development cost, electricity.. not sure about you but I have seen huge increases in electricity over the last couple years.

all for a what extra $3 a month over the others..

Computers run on electricity which is often powered by fossil fuels. Bandwidth is still very expensive.

The price of 1 pizza per month for potentially 248 hours or more of entertainment is really nothing. It is approximately six cents per hour.
