Are they, like, the same thing, or what? I know, newb, right,  but I really need and answer here, because it's getting confusing … If there's a difference in these two categories, what exactly is it? Is it campaign-dependent, or something? I only played the core campaign, so I wouldn't know… but if that's it, someone should make an official note somewhere…

I'm pretty sure they did, it should all be in the FAQ. Far as I know, quests are just "side-quests", while missions are the main "story-quests". You go through the missions to advance the storyline, which is for the most part linear. You go through the quests just to advance your character further, so you can do that at any time, as it suits you. That answers your question?
