I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question, but it's been bugging the hell out of me, and I can't figure it out on my own: What do I need to do to change or remove a pet that's been charmed by a hero? I know how to do it for the main character, but not for heroes. Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, you can't. I wouldn't exactly call it a bug, it's more of a … technical oversight. Expect it to be addressed in a later release.
