God this game is complicated. You gotta have a phd just to figure out the interface.
More to come when I get bored of doing something else.
Also the grind is pretty obviously going to be bad. Getting through level 3 was a b***h. Can't wait for level 59 :p

"Complete this small questionnaire in order to attack the mob."
Like that? Or just poorly laid out: cluttered, vague buttons, etc?

I hope the lvling is slow, unlike EQ now. I enjoyed when EQ had hell levels and all that. So when you saw someone at 50th lvl you knew they had "worked" to get where they were.
I hope I can get into beta sometime, I am excited to compare it to my small playtime with WoW.

not really, itd prob take me forever to level up, but id like to expierence all the different zones to the same magnitude as the zones ill be in after i get my max level. for instance, i learned field of bone and kurns like the back of my hand, and had fun doing it, same with all zones i went to after that to level, was fun for me /shrug

Anyway those who played EQ at its release remember that it was hard and long to level up.

I dont really level to fast, so your comment is irrelevent to me. I just think a game is better when its a tad more work then eq is now and has been for some time. I know I had more fun near release then I do now in EQ

I was playing EQ just a few days after release, so I am well aware of what EQ was like at that time.

aki, i love you, but you're way off on eq2 man.
Think of eq2 leveling, as planes of power expansion.
It's just a means to hold people back, that makes it long, hard, and if you don';t play 24/7 with your friends for a few days, you can no longer play with your friends AT ALL.

I'm not saying to make leveling horribly so, but there is a point where leveling becomes to fast. If you can start a game and get to the max level in a week... that game is to fast. On the other hand if it takes 2 years for the average person to hit max level then its to slow.
I dont know how EQ2's leveling is, I dont have it (if you're willing to let me play on your account then comment YAY ) but I am saying what I "think" would be a good way to do the game.
To fast = bad
To slow= bad
There is a sweet-spot I am sure!

wow It took me 30 minutes to figure everything out personally. It's even easier to control than EQ1 as far as things to worry about go. Grind time isn't bad if you do the quests along with killing stuff on the way. With a group of 6 you fly through the XP as long as everyone dosen't die all the time. The combo "heroic opportunity" is stupid proof, although i'm sure it will take many people a year to figure out because face it most people are beyond stupid online. I have just been exploring mostly and worrying about quests and xp whenever I die too many times. It's a very good looking game and there is an abundance of shit to do so far. But that is only after a week of playing. It usually takes about a month for the semi hardcore gamer to get bored of a new game. If you guys have any questions ask away I am bored at work.

Does the game seem to be open like a world? for example like freeport over to kith was a huge plane of grass with a lake and all, with desert on the borders. or is it more of an instanced type with more confined areas? as far as u have seen of course.

Commonlands took me 30 minutes to run from freeport to nek... partly because I had to dodge all of the shit that would kill me but... it is large open with herds of elephants and shit:P Has 3 dungeoon type things off of it so far that I have found... orcs undead cities and varous animals and bugs. you can fly griffons i assume as I have seen people flying them over me. It's just point to point but it's still cool.
You can't apply for beta anymore unless you signed up in the past sorry:P

Doesn't it give you pause to say, "It took me 30 minutes to figure out the interface"?
Shouldn't an interface be easy enough to use from the get go?
There's like 20 top level menus, and a billion buttons to configure.
It feels more like work than play and even though I want to, I can't get myself to open the game right now.

theres a difference between easy to get used to and intuitive.. i think intuitive is more important.. like dnd games you had to spend time learning how to play and how to do what.. but once you did the interface was easy to use.. if the reason its not a grab and go thing is the game is complex then thats good.. if the reason is the interface just sucks and is poorly laid out then thats bad.. wow to me atleast felt easy to learn because there really wasnt to much stuff to do with it.. kind of like learning to use the wc3 interface compared to the BG2 interface (what i hope eq2 is like)... havent experience eq2 personally tho so shoot this right down if it is in fact just a non intuitive interface.

And the deadly downtime is back. Not as bad as with EQ, but food in this game seems to regen your hp like 9 points every couple seconds. It's not that bad but it's not that great either.
The fight system seems pretty unimaginative. I'm telling you, after 55 levels of WoW, this just isn't that interesting.
And, there's no bards as far as I can tell. I'm a scout which essentially seems to be rogues.

Class branchings. You start off as a general class and at later levels can expands into more specialized classes.
