Asus, ABit and DFI are the best. Biostar makes decent motherboards aswell. MSI is half and half, some of their boards are awesome, and some are pure crap. Gigabyte is alright, no real experience with those tho. Soyo sucks, stay away from them.

Another thing that is kinda more important then who the actual manufactorer is, is which chipset the motherboard uses. From personal experiences, VIA and SIS chipsets suck small penis compared Nvidia's Nforce 2 (Ultra 400 in particular) Socket A chipset. The onboard sound called "SoundStorm" alone is worth using a Nforce motherboard.

For the absolute best SocketA you can get, look for a Asus board using the Nforce 2 Ultra chipset. Like this http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-131-478&depa=1.

I've gotten Abit motherboards for my last few. They've always been fine. My only complaint is that Abit seems to drop support (BIOS upgrades, mainly) for them relatively quickly. Although maybe other manufacturers do too.

I used to be a huge fan of Asus, but the last 3 experiences with them have turned me off.

I buy Abit or Gigbyte now. You get lots more bang for the buck, and not really paying the premium for the auss name, which doesnt mean shit anymore, imho.

i totally agree

my asus board had problems (p4c800-e deluxe) .. i RMAd it and sold it on ebay for more than i bought my abit board for (ic7), and the abit board is working perfectly (aside from the fan on the chipset that i keep getting free replacements of because it sucks .. but thats really a non-issue)

let me see

asus board bought for $180
asus board f***s up
asus board RMAd
asus board sold for $150
abit board bought for $110
abit board works like a charm
abit fan RMAd over and over again and i have 3 ultracool broken chipset fans glued to my wall for free
$40 profit made on selling asus board after buying abit board to replace it

im going with abit on this one

Yah, Abit is good. Their nf7 boards are really popular among the overclocking crowd. They're really realiable and well made boards.
