Gettysburg was a ton better then God's and Generals. G&G the movie also imho butchered the book, it was a decent flick, but not the best.

If they took out all of the love shit, and it wasnt 3-5 hours long. I walked out at the intermission when it was in theaters. Even though I wanted to stay. I couldn't handle it. I bought it on dvd, but f**k me in the goatass, I should edit it on my computer so I watch just the battles and battle plan parts.

one thing i liked about it was It showed more about the confed army than the North. Most Civil war movies Never show the south.

now, i'm not a rascist at all. and the south did have bad morals, but when you think about it african americans are in a position 100x better then they would be if they were still in africa, and if you also think about the fact that they would have been killed if not sold for slaves that also begs the question about why african americans shouldn't complain that much.

The South is kind of interesting. Being an alien resident in Georgia, I never really understood the sophisticated aristocratic antebellum culture because I think it's largely misinterpretated by modern history books. Except for the whole slavery thing (which was considered acceptable by most northerners as well as southerners at the time), it seems to me that the southern culture was superior to the north's. The architecture, which now mostly lays in ruins, is a really nice greek revivalist and puts most northern antebellum homes to shame. There was a strong appreciation for family, freedom and liberty (the civil war was started for similar reasons as the revolutionary war).
I went to Stone Mountain Park a couple weeks ago and they have some old mansions and slave quarters there. Pretty sad, but I looked in the slave quarters and though...I'd rather live here than the ghetto!
