After lawsuit against Activision, Gibson Guitar Corp. is now suing others involved in selling and distribution of the popular game Guitar Hero, including Wal-Mart, Target, GameStop, Amazon, Toys ‘R’ Us and Kmart.
Gibson has already tried to stop Activision from making the Guitar Hero game, claiming that game too closely matches Gibson's musical virtual-reality patent from 1999.

How can they patent a game genre? These kind of music games have been made by loads of game developers over the years. Probably due to the gibson guitar being the "controller".

I would understand if Gibson made a similar game, but my understanding is that they cannot improve on Guitar Hero, and just want it to stop being made, sold, and played. That's pretty awful.
Ironically, the guitar controller looks like a Gibson Les Paul, which suggests that they sold the rights to make the controller in the likeness of one of thier famous models, and then turn around and sue the same people.

On the game box all of the guitars have "Gibson" written on them somewhere.
It IS a Gibson les paul

That's weak. You shouldn't be able to patent stuff like that. Your patenting something that someone can reverse engineer.
If they are suing Guitar Hero, what about Rock Band?

Gibson have had a mock guitar system with buttons on the fret board to teach people how to play cords and notes for years. I guess they have been to slow or just not seen the potential to imrove the system with new technology. Sour grapes IMO

This isnt really suprising, this seems to be the american way.. Sueing for anything and everything to try to make a buck. Look at all the lawsuits against the medical feild, a doctor can even say im sorry without getting slaped with a malpractice suit.

That is so gay! They should be thanking Guitar Hero! It's free publicity (although most people already knew them).Plus, why would you sue now??? It's frickin March! Guitar Hero came out in November (I think).

And theenecros, to answer your question, they won't(CAN'T) sue Harmonix (Rock Band) because Rock Band uses the Fender Stratocaster. Not the Gibson Les Paul.
