My new phone...this thing is my savior. It has wireless internet (for those of you that are web-savvy and need to cheat on exams or something, this thing is your ticket to A's, not that I condone it). It's got AIM, so you're never alone. It's got an easy to type with keyboard. Yes, in the midst of all this, it still actually works as a cell phone. Shit, you'd think I sell these things.
Get one. Seriously.

I can't think of an instance where it's not useful. Not to mention that it really cuts back on your phone time...just IM them.

question is, how much does it COSTS to use wireless internet..
I cant say i've ever seen it being cheap.
The phone i used (has netstuffish to) costs about $25 for every megabyte of data...that's a shitload of money for hardly nothign

i know sprint has an unlimited data transfer plan for like $100/month and you can use your phone as a cellular modem too. i thought about getting this service for my laptop but then i decided that i was never too far from a DSL connection that i would need it.
verizon is apparently much better then sprint when it comes to data transfer, but it's not available in my area except for government organizations.

Can you imagine all the damage it could do to all those pacemakers in Florida??? That technology should never get out into the public down there!

Heh. I've been thinking about signing up for wireless data with Verizon. But I can't make any sense out of their overwhelming load of marketing crap. All I want to know is how many kinds of wireless access they have, what the protocols are, and how fast they are. But they've got god knows how many products - none of them say what they are or what the speed is. They're all just "get news and sports info", "send messages", "faster downloads" and piles of useless verbiage that don't tell me anything useful.
They do have an unlimited cdpd plan for $50/mo. But my recollection of cdpd is that it's old, slow technology (like 12-16 kb/sec?), unless it's been improved. I'm not sure what any of the other plans do.
"Get it Now", "Express network", "Mobile IP", "Mobile Office", "Mobile Web", "Mobile Web Plus" mean nothing to me. I wish they'd just tell me exactly what they have rather than trying to snow me with a bunch of useless misleading crap.

Free internet....service is 40 bucks a month. Nuff said. This thing is perfection. I can view most websites (most websites are making a mobile version of themselves for people using the phone). I can get to a Realpoor page in about 30 seconds...but people's sig's that are really big and full of pictures (the flower princess comes to mind) REALLY make the process longer. AIM is just like having AIM. Yet, the wireless internet is totally free...but you don't get a whole ton of minutes. That's what AIM is for, right?

Free internet meaning there's no charge for using it. It's 40 bucks a month for your minutes (well, MY minutes). I'm sure there are lower payment plans for lower minutes like any cell phone, but I'll pay a little bit more for wireless internet...that's just me.

what really sucks about all these cell phone companies that offer data services, no one in their sales departments know wtf is going on. they're all like, i'm sorry sir, i don't know what a pc card slot is =/
then of course the websites suck ass because there's so many different kinds of plans. internet for your phone, using your phone as a modem, getting a PC Card and using that, does the data transfer eat up your minutes, is there a transfer limit? huh wha wooza

Nothing eats up minutes except the actual usage of the telephone.
