Dam, this is turning out to be THE best 2 months for gamers, possibly ever.
Half Life 2, follow up to the most popular and defining fps ever developed.
EQ 2, follow up to the most popular and revolutionary mmorpg of all time.
GTA 3, follow up to the most contriversal title ever.
Halo 2, the tent pole title for the X-Box.
World fo Warcraft, Blizzards venture into the mmorpg market.
Holy crap, talk about heaven on earth. It's a good time to be a gamer.

Lets break this down:
Half Life 2: If you are a steam fan.. otherwise NOPE.
EQ 2: Great title, but it's hit or miss with most people.
GTA 3: Sequals get old, 2 was OK, 3 is just more of the same.
Halo 2: Only if you are an Xbox fan, else you have better choices.
I would hardly call it a great time for all gamers, but it is a good time for niche gamers.

EQ2 is being released? I didn't even realize that. Haven't been following it much since I'm still sort of annoyed by the SWG suckage. Still, I liked original EQ.
I don't have time to follow all these games anymore. From the standpoint of somebody who can play maybe 2-4 hours at a time, 3-4 evenings a week, maybe one or two additional 2-4 hour sessions on the weekend, is either EQ2 or WoW obviously better? Or are they both pointless unless you can devote 30 hours a week or so?

Going to have to respectfully disagree with you. Numbers speak volumes.
Half Life is the most played non-subscription game. Period. This includes all mods (CS, Team Fortress, DoD, NS), this isn't an opinion.
EQ is the hands down camp of the mmorpg market. Hands down.
GTA, just a well selling title.
Halo, the most anticipated X-Box title in the last 2 years.
WOW, the game on Blizzards plate for years now. Any Blizzard consumer is anticipating this.
Have whatever opinion ya like but all of these titles culminating at the same time = best 2 months for gamers in a long time if not ever. If you want to give me another 2-month time frame with the same type of hype then knock yourself out. Post it up.

EQ != EQ2 (yes I will be playing EQ2 infact I already do).
Half Life != Half Life 2 ... Furthermore this doesn't change the fact that steam SUCKS it's worse then gamespy which is pretty s****y in it's own right.

The alternatives are?
Granted it's open to hacks but what do you want for a non monthly service?
My gripes are mild since I've seen it come a long way since Kali.

Add Metroid Prime 2 and Viewtiful Joe 2 to the hyped game list. More obscure, but Growlanser Generations comes out too :/ (Growlanser 2 and 3 bundle, previously only Jap Strategy RPGs) f*****g full time job =p
