Generally game is rated as very good.
Most important thing is that, as far as I know, you're be able to transfer your beta account when the real game starts. So, all your builds will be transferred as well.
In the game itself, you would find places that exist in the Tolkien books. I saw even screenshots from Rivendell. 
But you'll be highly disappointed if you plan to play as a Wizard or Ranger.
These classes actually don't exist in the game. That's because there were only few Wizards (players would be able to meet Radagast the Brown as I heard) and all Rangers are Dunadain.
These classes will be reserved for NPCs.
But, there is alternative. You could play Hunter and Loremaster class, which are somewhat similar to Rangers and Wizards.
But, definitely you should join the game.
