Just came back from this. Thousands of police from all over the country, 10 deep, lined the street in front of the church for close to a mile. I didn't know Rafferty, but had met Parker a few times over the years, he was a good guy.
/salute
God speed.
Det. Robert Parker.
Det. Patrick Rafferty
Funeral shots. I'm in the second and third of the 6 pictures, btw.

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
EAST ISLIP — A New York City police detective killed last week with his partner while responding to a domestic dispute was remembered Wednesday as a mentor to other officers at their Brooklyn precinct.
Suffolk County police estimated that 15,000 officers from New York and other states had gathered at St. Mary’s Catholic Church for the funeral of Detective Patrick Rafferty, 39, of Bay Shore. Rafferty and Detective Robert Parker, 43, were shot last Friday when the suspect allegedly grabbed Parker’s gun in East Flatbush.
“I learned a great deal with them,” said 67th Precinct Detective Nelson Figueroa, choking with emotion. “They made my time in the 6-7 that much easier. It was a pleasure working with them, knowing them, on the job and off.” Parker’s funeral is scheduled for Friday.
Rafferty’s funeral was attended by Mayor Bloomberg, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly and Fire Department Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta.
A long motorcade was led by hundreds of police motorcycles from all over the metropolitan area. The muffled sounds of the Fire Department’s Emerald Society Pipe and Drums could be heard in the distance.
The route, from the funeral home to the church, was the same one used by the East Islip St. Patrick’s Day Parade. At the end of the funeral, a flyover of seven police helicopters from various departments followed the playing of taps.
“It’s going to be hard going on with our work and doing what we have been doing without them,” added Figueroa, who worked with both detectives for about four years.
“Any question I had, the two people I would go to were Bobby Parker and Pat Rafferty,” said Detective Eric Torres. “They were my mentors and I hope for the rest of my career I could follow their steps.”
The suspect, Marlon Legere, 28, who was shot in both feet during the scuffle with the two detectives, pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges Monday, and was ordered held without bail.
The detectives were posthumously promoted Tuesday to first-grade detective, the New York Police Department’s highest detective rank. The promotion will increase the benefits their families will receive by thousands of dollars a year.
“The promotions are in recognition of their service to the citizens of New York City and their selfless dedication to duty,” Kelly said on Tuesday.
At the time of the shooting, Legere was wanted for questioning about a relatively minor May incident in which his mother said he broke a window in her house.
Police and prosecutors said Parker and Rafferty were trying to stop Legere from stealing his mother’s car Friday night when he allegedly wrested away Parker’s gun and opened fire.
The two detectives were the first to be killed in the line of duty since March 2003, when two undercover detectives from the police department’s organized crime control bureau were shot on Staten Island during a sting operation against gun dealers.
Another officer died on duty of a heart attack in January while running to the scene of an arrest.
Rafferty is survived by his wife, Eileen, and three children, Karen 12, Kevin, 9, and Emma, 5; his mother Joan Rafferty and five siblings — four brothers and a sister. |

| Quote: | Parker a detective to his last breath

Det. Robert Parker was a well-known veteran in Brooklyn's 67th Precinct, where some of the city's toughest cops fought back tears yesterday as they traded stories about a gentle man with an athlete's build and a special skill in homicide investigations.
"He was my homicide guy," Deputy Insp. Vincent DiDonato said of the former professional wrestler known as Bobby. "He was so good at murder, he used to resurrect old cases."
In a final act that summed up Parker's dedication to the job, he used his last breaths to identify the man who killed him and Det. Patrick Rafferty, apparently after somehow grabbing Parker's gun.
"He stayed alive to make the identification. He said to 911, 'I have a picture of the guy who shot me on my dashboard.' Can you believe the presence of mind? He's a true hero," DiDonato said.
Because of his expertise, Parker, 43, had been recruited to Hollywood to consult on the set of the television series "NYPD Blue" a few years ago. And in a case of life imitating art, he liked to use television tricks in his detective work.
A "Star Trek" fanatic, Parker convinced a killer that he could read his mind using a "Vulcan Mind Meld," DiDonato remembered.
Mimicking the television series' Mr. Spock, Parker placed his fingers on the suspect's temples.
"He says to the guy, 'OK, I know you did it,'" remembered DiDonato. "The guy gave it right up. The guy said, 'How did you know?' It's a classic story."
Since joining the force in 1982, Parker, a second grade detective, was credited with nearly 500 arrests. He also had been shot at on the job before, according to one colleague, after accidentally coming across a rape in progress in 1982 in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Parker was 300 pounds of muscle. He was a cat lover who kept several in his Brooklyn apartment. He could belt out an Elvis tune, then segue into opera.
"He was always walking around the station house singing opera," said Lt. David Siev, formerly of the 67th Precinct.
"He was a very distinguished-looking man," said Inspector Robert Boyce, Parker's commanding officer. "He had very large shoulders, a broad back. He looked like a professional athlete. Down at the gym, he was a legend."
For all his brawn, Parker also had a gentle side, according to colleagues and residents of the 67th Precinct.
"He was a gentleman. He was always very respectful, very diligent about his work, just a really really good guy," said Det. Nicholas DiMonda, who worked with Parker.
Patricia Reddock, president of the local community council, said Parker was known in the community as someone who didn't talk down to residents. "He was known as a nice hands-on detective," she said.
Five years ago, Parker investigated a break-in at Reddock's home.
"He gave me all his sympathies and asked me if I was OK. The manner in which he questioned me was very calming. He assured me everything would be all right," Reddock said.
DiDonato also remembered Parker's kindness.
"Every Christmas he never forgets me. He gets me a gift," DiDonato said. "He told me he admired me and bought me a d**k Tracy bobblehead doll," DiDonato said.
"When you go to a restaurant and someone else is paying, you take the filet mignon. That was Bobby Parker." |

That and car stops are the most dangerous jobs. They were doing both at the same time, a dispute that ended up as a car stop.

The fact that you are trying to bust my balls in this thread is proof that you are a scumbag child.
Save this thread and read it when you grow up, I'm sure you will agree with me.

Kbarr man, you really should have shown up at Tam's party, reguardless of the fact that you give people shit on the boards. It would have been fun throwing one back with you.
