these shady bastards, omfg
they dont show all your pending trasnactions on online banking, they show them for like 1 day and then they disappear like they dont exist.
I had like 2 week old shit they slammed me with right after i'd cleared out my account and took out alot of cash....and whamo slammed me with 6 overdraft fee's on shit like $6 at a gas station, and slammed a 30 dollar overdraft fee on each, just because they dont show you your pending transactions cept for one stinking day on online banking, then they save it all up and f**k you with it all at once.
WTF kinda shit is that
I hate that bank, I need a new 1 with reliable service =(

They do that everywhere Khrath, sorry.
I worked at US Bank for 2 years. One of our main sources of revenue in a time of falling interest rates was, you guessed it, overdraft fees.
Ranging from $29 to $33 a piece no matter how much the overdraft amount was, refunding them was a big no no.
Anyways, that blows, my advice, always keep a safe cushion in any bank account these days that you have a lot of transactions going through. When you need cash make sure you plan it out.
Another thing, they don't have to show pending transactions, for example, VISA Check Card purchases and what not. Best rule of thumb is to allow 1 week for each check card purchase to clear your account.
Anyways, dunno where you live, if you live in Chicago, West Suburban Bank has good overdraft procedures, they limit the amount of fees you can be charged, etc. Lots of the "Big Name" banks don't offer any concessions or anything designed to help the customer.
So stay away from Bank of America, Bank One, CitiBank, US Bank, whatever the big names are.. or check them out really well..
Overdrafts are like a slap in the face, with a huge fee, I hated them. Always targets the people who can least afford it too.

I love BoA. I had checks forged from my account, and $5000 spent using said checks. They caught that the signature was different, stopped all the checks and notified me. Saved my ass they did.

Lotek:
They didn't save YOUR ass, they saved their OWN ass.
That is fraud and basically, you aren't accountable for the damage on your account from it like that. If someone forges a check and then the bank clears it, they are liable for the amount that they deducted. It becomes a bank loss.

iirc my buddy was given an overdraft charge for the 20 bucks he overdrew from an atm, and then another overdraft charge for the $1.50 the atm charged him.

You have to treat Debit Card transactions just like checks. Depending on the vendor that you use your DC at it can take anywhere from a day to a week to clear your account. Most places put a "hold" on the funds you use right away, but the money doesn't come out of your account until they actually reconcile their Card Machine, or turn in their paper copies. Most places reconcile their Card Machine's every day, but sometimes people forget, or older businesses still might use paper copies, which they can hold on to for a few days. Most gas stations only tag your account for 1 dollar when you actually pull up, since they don't know the actual value you'll be buying of gas, then you get hit for the full amount when they reconcile.
The lesson here is that on-line banking is great, but never replaces just keeping track of how much cash you have (via your checkbook or whatever).

Oh, and BTW, Washington Mutual isn't a bank, it's a Saving and Loan. They don't like to mention it, but your money isn't guaranteed there the way it would be at US Bank or Wells Fargo. For most of us it doesn't really matter, but it irks me that they get away with basically commiting low level fraud by advertising themselves like they're a bank when they're really an S&L.

I was hit with one of those over-balance fees like 4 years ago. Damn atm cards :/ I've never let my account drop below 100 dollars since then, i don't ever touch that hundred for any reason. My fee was like 75 bucks and i went over-balance by like 9 dollars.
