... comes the latest news from the Anti-Defamation League.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/Northeast/02/28/peta.holocaust/index.html

Quote:
The Anti-Defamation League has denounced a campaign by an animal rights group that compares slaughtering animals to the murder of 6 million Jews in World War II.

The graphic campaign and exhibit "Holocaust on Your Plate," devised by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, juxtaposes 60-square-foot panels displaying gruesome scenes from Nazi death camps side by side with disturbing photographs from factory farms and slaughterhouses. One shows a starving man in a concentration camp next to a starving cow.

The exhibit opens Friday in San Diego, California, and went up Thursday at the University of California at Los Angeles. It also is posted on a PETA Web site, www.masskilling.com, which calls for support for the campaign from the Jewish community.

The comparisons prompted an angry statement from Abraham Foxman, Anti-Defamation League national director and a Holocaust survivor.

"The effort by PETA to compare the deliberate, systematic murder of millions of Jews to the issue of animal rights is abhorrent," the statement said. "PETA's effort to seek approval for their 'Holocaust on Your Plate' campaign is outrageous, offensive and takes chutzpah to new heights...."

/sigh... why must everything be 'politically correct?' It's getting to the point where you can't say anything to anyone.

The entire PETA website is good for a laugh. I can't imagine why anyone would take them seriously.

What? You don't hear the "moo"-ing of dead cows in your house every time you have a steak for dinner?

I GUESS I AM THE ONLY ONE.

Akronn...

Quite often the ADL is just another whine-group, but this time I fully agree with them. You don't find anything wrong with posting graphic pictures of the Holocaust, an event that wiped 1/3 of the world's Jewish population off the face of the planet in the most brutal adn inhumane possible way (and over 2/3 of European Jews) to be the slightest bit inappropriate and offensive?

Come on, there are plenty of examples of politically correct whiners, worried about the slightest perceived insult, but this is not one of them. That ad campaign is disturbing. Call the meat industry a holocaust if you want, that demeans the real event but is within the bounds of acceptable.

Showing the pictures of the corpses for an anti-meat campaign is going too far. When words like Nazis and Holocaust and the images associated with them get thrown around on a daily basis for insignificant events or b******t causes, it takes some of the stigma out of the original events, and makes people forget just how unique and horrifying it was. How many kids now on this board even use the word Nazi as just another adjective for a censor or bad person, without understanding the depth of what Nazism really stood for? Those who forget history...

Economically and in a lot of other ways, meat is a waste. Good food is good food. Proudly trumpeting that you prefer meat to anything, regardless of preparation and presentation, is pretty humorous. "You" being whomever might do so.

Look at the land it takes to make 2000 calories of meat versus 2000 calories of equal amino acids from plants.

Dunno about PETA... they can be very extreme sometimes.
