Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist on Friday threw his support behind House-passed legislation to expand federal financing for human embryonic stem cell research, breaking with President Bush and religious conservatives in a move that could impact his prospects for seeking the White House in 2008.
"It's not just a matter of faith, it's a matter of science," Frist, R-Tennessee, said on the floor of the Senate.

Good for him, it's about time someone with some balls stood up for what they believe in, instead of what will get them votes.

Thumbs up - smart move. My guess is he'll get the nomination for the Republicans (who could pose a threat to him?) and with moves like that also pick up a couple million democratic voters.
As more and more people (and voters) get older, I'd say it's high time someone put their welfare above the religios definition of the beginning of life. If they can't get procedures resulting from such science in the US, they'll get it in a country with less moral objections. (Hello singapore) Genetic Science is one of the markets you don't want to scare away...
As for moral objections: Isn't it equally (or even more so) objectable to not explore any possible avenue to help people who have been paralyzed since birth? And there's a whole lot more problems, that might "soon" be in the past.

Good for him. Of course, he knows they'd steamroll right over him with Jeb in 2008 anyway, so it's not like he's really risking anything

I think most of the country is sick enough of hearing people complain about the Bushes, that they wont put another in office.

I'm still not that positive the people put THIS Bush in office. Hey, if you can believe in perpetual motion, I can believe in rigged voting machines.

Jeb is a fuckup
whoever they nominate, most likely that person is going against Hilary. (which is a whole other frightening thought in itself,) but i think if the GOP gets real and nominates someone more towards the middle, they'll keep the white house in 2008. if its another far-right administration, the race is really going to be a f*****g circus.

Heh Hillary would be scary - I'd probably vote for most people over her, except Jeb maybe.
I saw a thing the other day where some people were suggesting Russ Feingold as a candidate for the Dems. I don't know much about him, but a couple of things I've seen made him seem interesting.

unless by some miracle of events Hillary will never be president.
if the democrats are stupid enough to have her run they deserve their fate
.. possible miracles where Hillary is president include everyone ahead of her dying, and a women's revolution ..
.. actually not a womans revolution .. in that case she would be Empress, the USA would be renamed the United States of Vaginica, all males would be required castration, and the propaganda catch phrase of the day would be "If you aren't a l*****n, you aren't a Vaginican"

Feingold is one of the only true honest politicians in the Federal Government. He straight up rocks.
I also went to high school with his daughters and step-sons. Used to but heads with the one in my grade cause she was so god damn opinionated about shit she had no reason opening her mouth about.
I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.
