I'm willing to develope (1) software application under any OS I have access to and experience with.
I'm looking to create something using these components: artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, maybe an expert system (depending on the application) and of course database and network support.
Here are the operating systems I can develope and test under: FreeBSD, RedHat Linux, Gentoo Linux, Win98, WinXP, MS-DOS, Caldera DOS, QNX, Phar-Lap's RTOS.
Also, I have about 6 years of experience with the Allegro library. Dunno what it's up to lately. Haven't messed with it in about 18 months.
Post your ideas here! Best one gets a free app in your name.

bored?
If you want something to write:
Write a program that analyzes a picture and determines which category it falls into based on color/pattern/filename.
I'm desperately trying to find some time to sort my 2500+ pictures and i'd love to sort them into categories. Problem is some of them have crappy names and some have text captions. I attempted to sort them by hand 3 months ago, but i lost everything on that computer when it crashed. I estimate it would take 12 hours to sort all of them, but the hardest part was coming up with categories. Currently they are sorted by when i found them, with about 40 html index pages containing anywhere from 25 to 200 pictures each.
I'd love to have them sorted into nude/nws, captioned (further sorted by what kind of caption), cartoon/animated, etc. The file names offer some clues, but not always enough to sort the picture. Such a program should offer a chance to implement fuzzy logic and other techniques while not requiring perfect results.
Basically your input would be a directory full of pictures, and the output could be a set of file lists (nws.txt, captioned-gay.txt, captioned-owned.txt, etc) and maybe even move the files into directories and generate the html to display them (i have a program i wrote that does some of that, but i have to have the files sorted already)

When I was collecting porn (24/7 downloading on a dialup, whee) I wanted exactly that application. It's a pretty daunting task though. Not sure I'm up to that big of a challenge in my spare time.
But, if no one else has any good ideas, why not?

Code me a custom Windows app that integrates with Windows Media Player and allows online song selection and queue management from a web-based system. I.E., someone can go to my webpage and queue up songs for play over my wmp stream. That would be tight shit.

I'd like a monitor, something that monitors my temps, and CPU usage, etc. And minimizable to a point it will still show maybe 3-4 things while on the task bar. Having things like a Win Amp controller, etc would be nice too. But my main concern is having some monitoring for the system in a small user friendly app. For Windows . . .
EDIT: If it is skinnable, that'd be a real plus too.

Ever done any work with any 3D rendering applications? Or BSP trees?
You'd be working mostly with DirectX and possibly one of the man different versions of the ever popular BSP 3D geometry format.

create a POS (Point of Sale) system that can automatically create inventory orders when inventory is low as well as base it's order on a certain time frames worth of sales.
Example
Item #1 originally arrived Tuesday in the quantity of 100 and this is the firs ttime it's been in my store, it's now Friday and I'm down to 10 of them, make it so that my system will automatically generate an order for this item so that based on this demand it will give me the inventory I need for the next two weeks. All I need to do is approve the final order. It needs to take into consideration that the item was new and therefore going to sell better at the beginning than later, as well as project it's inventory needs based off of retail season, such as Christmas.
Items #2 #3 and #4 have all been in store for a while, but are getting low, at the end of the day the system should provide me with suggested restocking amounts for items that are low and still selling at a constant rate.
Code for windows, XP would be preferable.
Other options needed are the basics as well as one that would allow for a function of "Similar items" based on past customer purchase history. Within the database there should be two fields one marked genre and another marked sub genre. A third field marked closest to should be included as well, this will be a basis for this advanced search function that will allow for someone to say "Hey, I liked <insert title here>, what do you have that's like that?"
This particular system would be beneficial for bookstores, movie rental and sales places, as well as video game stores.
I want a copy please

Make a program that can keep track of how many times you get laid. You can track what positions you used. and if you got a BJ or went down on the girl. If she swallowed or spit. How many times you came/she came if at all. Name of your partner(s). Hair color or personality or something Then it can analyze it for you and give you monthly or weekly or annual stats. and you can figure out what girls you can laid with more easily.

I actually did this for a while, but slightly differently. I use Han-D-Base for my palm pilot. It's a relational database. In it I kept track of the # of times my gf put out (and # of times I got off, versus # of times I was just servicing her ice-queen ass). I did a summary of the $$ I was spending in the 'Dating' category and then divided by # of times I blew my load.
When she was more expensive to lay than a h****r, I dumped her.
