Holy f**k.

So I decide to go to wendys with my friend, like 2am here when I left to get him. So were driving to the wendys and I start to notice that some of the street lights are going out as we are getting to them. Over about 8-10 miles 6 go out. I dont say anything to my friend because I am starting to freak out. Finally we get there, get our food and turn around to go back. I see one go out. I decide I need to see if he is seeing this too so I tell him that 7 light s have gone out and too watch the lights the rest of the way. A few seconds later one goes out and he is like ooooohhh holy f**k. Then about 5 more down the line, one goes out, then about 3 more, one goes out, then about 5 more again, one goes out. WE are both freaking the f**k out in the car. Crazy goose bumbs and shit. Then nothing for about 6 miles. I pass the exit I normally take to see more lights to see if any go out. Finnally as we are comming up to the exit we are goingt o take, one goes out, then a few seconds later, the one closes to the exit goes out. At this point were driving past the lights mumbling please dont go out, please dont go out.

I get back to his house and we are both still freaking out and once the feeling of nails on a chalk board we both feel goes away he gets out and runs to his house. I drove home and here I am.

HOLY f**k

Im still a little freaked out.

well anyways regardless it happens every so often when i drive my expedition with the high beams on. this is prolly what happened if the road had any different heights or anything, older street lights etc.

If you want to be rational about it:

http://farshores.proboards6.com/index.cgi?board=arc&action=display&num=1078952512

Quote:
Well, there are two schools of thought on this.

One viewpoint is expressed in the link provided by FS Webmeister. (I was about to add the link, and saw the post turn up!)

The other viewpoint is based upon the equipment involved, and some basic statistics.

Most street lights cycle -- that is, they undergo "rest" periods where they are off for several minutes. At any given moment along a mileage of road, x number of lights will be off. The timing mechanism is subject to aging, and some lights cycle more often.

Further, most street lights are activated by a photocell, older models by a timer. Thus, in any given area most of the lights turn on at about the same time as dusk falls. From that time each light cycles in its own pattern.

I gather from what you wrote that the phenomenon happens about the same time every night, as you drive home. When our patterns start to synch with a light's pattern, it can start to seem eerily like a cause/effect relationship.

I know whereof I speak on this one -- the same thing happened to me for a while. A street light about 1/2 mile from my house would go out as I came up to it. I put it down to a faulty photocell, reacting to the headlights of my car, but it didn't respond to other cars... It happened often enough, I went looking for explanations. Looking back, I realized that the "string" of times it happened, I was coming home on a very regular schedule. And, when I had come late, it hadn't happened.

(And you are indeed not alone in this -- this question has come up on the net before, with both viewpoints represented.)

Though we don't like to think of ourselves that way, we can fall into routines which are almost mechanistic at times. It you plot our "normal" routine by path and time, it can vary by only a small degree from day to day. And machines are mechanistic, so when our routines intersect... And like any phenomenon, once you are sensitized to it you tend to witness more instances of it.

The question is (before building a cause/effect case): would that light have gone off at that time, if you didn't happen to be passing by it? I think if you set up a camera to watch it, you would find the answer is yes.

Mind you, this discussion is regarding a specific circumstance, that of street lights. The claims of those who say other types of lights and devices are affected by their presence are something yet again -- a different mystery. And I do think we have personal variation in how our bodily fields interact with the world -- some people affect watches so they can't keep good time.

But in this instance, I think you should consider the "scientific" explanation before giving weight to an extraordinary explanation.

That is realy interesting because I actually snuck out so I was worried about my parents waking up and catching me, could be the stress needed for SLI, also it started happening more/faster when it was freaking us out and we were like focusing on the lights the most.

Freraky shit but I would reather think of it as something like that then any other paranormal explanation.

just think about this, your body is not connected to the light at all. you don't give or recieve any information to it at all it's just a freaking light. a bunch of gasses which give off energy when an electrical charge is shot through it. how could your mood possibly make them stop giving off light if the electricity is still flowing? the only conclusion that you can logically come to is that you cannot turn off a light or change volume on a tv with your mind. (well because your mind does not "talk" or connect to these devices at all) just light sensors or heat sensors like that website said

The only paranormal thing thats ever genuinly scared me was that bloody mary thing where you spin around afew times in the bathroom with the lights off then look in the mirror and say bloody mary. I had a friend who did it when we were younger and you gotta do it alone, so he did it and it was quiet for awile until we heard him scream and glass break. We rushed in there and he had hit the glass or something and broke it everywhere and cut his hands. It was real freaky to see blood and glass everywhere.

Most developed cities in the US. In other words, unless you live in the f*****g sticks, there is a Wend's within 10 miles.

The grue is a sinister, lurking presence in the dark places of the earth. Its favorite diet is either adventurers or enchanters, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its horrible fear of light. No grues have ever been seen by the light of day, and only a few have been observed in their underground lairs. Of those who have seen grues, few ever survived their fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

Grues have sharp claws and fangs, and an uncontrollable tendency to slaver and gurgle. They are certainly the most evil-tempered of all creatures; to say they are touchy is a dangerous understatement. "Sour as a grue" is a common expression, even among themselves.
