Does it not worry anyone else that water, a somewhat important resource for living beings, will possibly be used for fuel?

You end up drinking salt water cause it evaporates, child.

Long-term projects are important - noone can expect the fuel problem to be solved in just a few short years. At least someone's doing something...

There are a lot of renewable, pollution-free energy solutions.
The competition for resources is going to be very interesting when those resources supply not just mechanical fuel, heat and light but also provide life.
Aren't you eager to pay Exxon 30% of your income?

The solution is very matter-efficient at first, but as you probably well know, the human 'need' for electricity grows to match the supply. New, popular gadgets will become affordable because the huge energy requirements, previously cost prohibitive, will suddenly be affordable. Doesn't every aspiring artist need a 250,000 watt kiln to fire their pots in at home? Why have an efficient CPU using only 3 watts of energy when 300,000,000 watts is just as cheap?
People are gluttonous, stupid creatures who can barely see past the end of their nose. We are as blind to subtle changes as the proverbial frog in a pot of slowly heating water.

We won't be dependant on this for fuel like we are with oil.
Physics has changed so much and grown so fast lately, I doubt fusion will ever become the planets main energy source.
By the time they develop the means to make it effecient, it will be old technology, and we'll be harvesting raw energy from thin air.
So like I said, let france waste their money, who cares.

not really, as ineffecient as crude oil is, we're still far from exhausting the oil supply we have, and it comes nowhere near to the 2/3rd mass of the planet like water does, it would take us eons to exhaust it all

Exactly. Getting worried about using up our oceans is stupid.

France will be broke in 50 years anyway because their Colony Money from the Imperial Age is about to run out and no one in france works or does anything they just live off the past and drink wine.

You do realize the only reason there aren't city-sized cruise ships is fuel issues, right?
If people could literally destroy (not evaporate - but destroy) 500 gallons of water per second so their "Floating Atlanta" could cross the ocean, they would.
And if you think 500 gallons per second is ridiculous, consider this: People in developed countries use twice as much electricity as those in non-developed. The amount of electricity used is directly proportional to the amount of electricity available.
In other words, the more electricity you can cheaply spend, the more you think you need to use cheaply. I don't see anyone here giving up their 6.5" 2kW fridge in favor of an energy efficient one.
When there are renewable resources available, burning water doesn't make any sense at all.
