Fending off a boycott from a conservative organization, automaker angers gay advocacy groups.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Ford Motor Co. faced sharp criticism from gay and l*****n advocacy groups for agreeing to stop advertising in gay-themed publications in the face of a boycott by the conservative American Family Association, according to a report Tuesday.
The AFA launched a boycott of Ford in May to protest marketing aimed at gay and l*****n consumers, the Detroit News said. The automaker responded by promising that most of its brands, with the exception of Sweden-based Volvo, will no longer target gay consumers through advertising.
After Ford's concession, gay and l*****n organizations argued that the automaker caved in to pressure from the religious right, the paper said.
"We are deeply dismayed that Ford has entered into a confidential agreement with the extremist American Family Association that requires Ford to stop advertising in l*****n, gay, bisexual and transgender media," a group of 17 gay and l*****n organizations said in a joint statement, according to the paper.
"If there is an agreement with AFA, we expect Ford to disavow it. We expect Ford to publicly reaffirm its historic support for our community. And, we expect Ford to meet with LGBT representatives this week to resolve these concerns."
Ford said that it could market its products in a manner that was just as effective without offending consumers, according to the report.
"We reserve the right to advertise our brands and products wherever we think it makes business sense," Ojakli and Leitch wrote in a letter Monday to Suzanne Wait, head of Ford's gay and l*****n employee group, according to the paper.
Ford said its nondiscrimination policies covering employees, regardless of race, religion, gender, **** orientation and cultural and physical differences, will not change.

Ford owns Volvo - or did the article mention that?
Anyway - who cares? Imagine you build widgets and sell them to Joe America. 90 years later you have an empire of widget factories. I'd imagine you are going to advertise anywhere you please.
What next? "Ford won't advertise in our jogging magazines!! All joggers across the world will now boycot Ford because they won't jam our pages full of ads!"

lol this reminds me...Anyone seen the new ford ad's that appeal to blacks? Hah maybe its just me but everytime I see these new commercials I interpret it like:
Ford: Yeah, yeah! wut wut be a true playa an pimp this here explora....tha ladiez will see your bling bling from a mile away sun...

Don't be so defensive man, im saying ford ISN'T up on the times. Their ad is so obvious that it is silly.

If they can make more money not advertising in gay mags then that's what they should do. I don't know why this warrants a press release though, they could have just done it and not said anything.

I doubt people would care if Ford just decided to not advertise but to do it then have it look like an outside force made them change their decision p****s off people.
Think about it how many times has some company caved to some crying people I have see posts here about that and it p****d people off.
Forget it's about gay's let's say some group hated something on Lost or 24 or another show many of us like and they caved and changed it, that would p**s you off right.
