Hi there! I'm about to open an account in LOTRO and I've been reading a lot about it lately. Among others I've seen that some people have been forced to change their character's name. For example, someone has used a name of some book ( I don't remember which, never heard of the book before) and the GMs have contacted him more than 2 weeks after he created a character with a request that he change his name. What is the name policy and what do you think was the problem with his name? Copyright perhaps?
I think copyright may be just one of the reasons though it depends on which book is it ( copyright expires 15 years after the author's death as far as I know). The thing is that using some book's title, especially if it is a sentence or a phrase is just stupid. I've heard that some guy named his character 'thelordoftheflies' or something and as far as I'm concerned, not only that I'd force him to change his name but I'd probably ban him.
