Final Fantasy XI UI sucks and I will tell this to anyone who wants to listen to me. I was forced to join this game and now I cant stop beating myself up side the head for buying the whole year package. There is nothing even remotely interesting in this game and any one who says different is a liar.

If this game has close to a million subscribers then it is not your place to tell that this game has nothing to offer and that who ever tells you different is a liar. I am sure that there are many more people who are convinced that this game has so many things to offer to a player and that if this player is not able to see the games value that it is his problem. I think like this and I dont appreciate that you go around and tell to who ever want to listen that this game sucks. It is simply not true and who ever take the time to play this game a bit will see what I am talking about.

The UI was made for PS2, which is why it's so awkward on a PC. That said recently mods have been made to customize it by japanese players, and add a bunch of neat features. It's still not compairable to warcraft's UI in terms of customization obviously, but every little bit helps.
I disagree that the game has nothing going for it, the visuals and storyline of that game far surpass anything you will find in any other mmorpg. The weather always managed to impress be, walking through La Thiene Plateau during a rainstorm, kicking up water as I went, and the large rainbow that followed as the rain cleared.
The cutscenes keep you immersed in the storyline as well, something warcraft definately lacks. I agree though that the game suffers from some serious flaws, namely the tedium of leveling, multiplied that you have to level more than one class to complete a single character, which makes it extremely difficult for newer players to attain end-game status (along with alternate advancement points, a stupid move imo).
It's a love it or leave it game. The friendships I made playing FFXI were far greater than the ones made in warcraft, and continue on years after I quit.

I can't believe I'm responding to such an old post but...
yes the game does seem boring at first because, I, like you, was forced into playing this game. My boyfriend got his big wig job right when I graduated high school and I had the whole summer to sit around and waste without him so he bought me FFXI. I hated that game with a passion! I didn't understand anything; I was the text book definition of a noob (if there were one). After about a week I refused to play. My b/f was able to get me back into playing because he agreed to level one of his low level jobs with my noob of a red mage. Needless to say, I got back into the game and I have been playing since that summer and its absolutely amazing. I now have two 75 fully merited jobs, completed all missions for my nation and aquired an army of friends who would help me do anything I wanted. Anything I want and or need is at my finger tips and the game is 100x better then when I started it a year and a half ago.
Also, to tolerate such a game, you need patience and in game intelligence and most people lack both these requirements. People expect to be able to pop the disc in and instantly gain the abilities to do anything. You must understand, it's a game that requires each person to begin from level one in jobs, crafts, missions, quests, ranks whatever. It can seem tidious killing monster after monster but thats why SE included so many other things such as CoP, ZM, ToAU, WoTG missions and everything else that comes with the game (if I were to name everything it would most likely send your simplistic gaming mind into a frenzy and im sure the only thing you could possibly associate with frenzy is killingfrenzy, am i wrong?)
Bottom line is, if you haven't played this game or have only played to the low 20's and quit, then you really have no thoughtful insight to put forward on the matter.
Please, don't give this game a bad rep. and dilute the perceptions of the people who haven't played this game just because the game is beyond you.
