I've been using this program for about 6 months now, and it ROCKS.

It supports SSL (ie. secure ftp), FXP-like functions... and best of all, its 100% free.

No more dicking with CuteFTP Pro, or WSFTP Pro.

Give it a try... you'll love it.

They also have a ftp server, going to be checking that out this week. Get it from your favorite Sourforge mirror or :

http://umn.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/filezilla/FileZilla_2_2_5_setup.exe

Full information and such can be found at :

http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/

With the advent of this, I will be turning off regular ftp on my FreeBSD machine (image hosting, etc) and you will need to use this to connect. ETA - 1 week till regular FTP is disabled!

There are a couple of different ways you can do SSL based FTP.

My favorite is ftp over ssh2. No extra ftpd server needed, although some ftpd's out there have inherant ssl support. You would need to use the second one if you were proxying ftp stuff on your network and your admin didn't allow port 22 (ssh) traffic outbound.

4 people have PM'd me now asking how to configure it to use with my machine (OpenSSH/SSL)

First of all, make sure you have version 2.2.5. Version 2.2.3 had issues with OpenSSL stuff.

Second, use SFTP over SSH2 as the server type. Realize that THIS IS NOT FTP ANYMORE. Its tranferring files over ssh (Might make a difference for you folks who are doing proxied FTP or don't allow outbound SSH)

I love this app and owe you a child.

If you are even remotely thinking about getting into web design or hosting get this and sit on it even if you don't plan on useing it right away.

This is a godsend.
