Just for the record, the defining authority on sin, the Catholic Church, finds neither alchohol not marijuana sinful, but its excessive use is condemned.

Why thank you for that interesting tidbit of information.
Excessive use negates any benefits in either situation, with alcohol you become a danger to yourself and those around you, with marijuana you usually get too tired to do anything.
