What will the economy of the Fallen Earth setting be like? From what little info I've been able to scrounge up so far, it sounds like it's going to be an all-out open bartering deal, is that right? How are they planning on handling that, I mean prices won't always add up right, will they? And how are players supposed to know the relative value of an object in such a system?

You're making assumptions based on some flawed information right there. Fallen Earth won't feature barter-only economics; it will have actual currency too, which makes things a lot easier, and just a little bit less believable, so that's OK. The latest news suggests old poker chips will be used as currency.
