Having played FFX and never having played Xenosaga i'd say Xenosaga wins.

FFX sucked horribly.
Xenosaga was never meant to be Xenogears, however, it deviated from even holding a candle to its predecessor (which isn't really a predecessor at all!). You can really only hope Episode 2 isn't as bad as 1's excess of Allan whining about Shion the whole time or the overall whimsical attempts at building plot.
I suggest you just play Xenogears. Xenosaga in a far second.
