Wow. That's the only word that comes to mind when trying to describe it.

Your thoughts?

Oh.. I guess SPOILER WARNING altho these aren't really spoilers per se...

Couple of things I liked. All the specials they showed. Tifa's Limit Break, for instance, most of them were clearly shown. Climhazzard was, as well as Sled Fang, and of course, Omnislash but with a twist. Smile

Vincent was kind of neat in this movie.. the blob movement he picked up at some point was kinda cool. I never liked Vincent much, I like him much more after this.

Yuffie was suprisingly likeable as well... it was funny when she parachuts in and immediately heaves.

The part that cracked me up was after Tifa puts Loz in his place, his phone starts ringing, the ringtone is the battle won theme. Nice touch.

Cid was sexy as usual.. I didn't get why he referred the ship as "Sierra". Maybe that was just a translation glitch. It cracked me up that they even matched his dorky, bow-legged run.

Also.. I didn't get why Vincent's entrance line was "Where's the phone shop?" Again, this may have been a translation issue.

I really liked the Bahamut fight.. that in and of itself was like some Matrix-stye fighting.. really neat shit. What I really liked about it was how everyone lent their power to Cloud as he had to go higher and higher up, culminating with Aeris herself lending her power. Made for a nice touch as well as not going the route of making Cloud out to be a one-man show.. I think that was a wise choice.

Why aren't American movies this entertaining?

-Nah-

Oh.. another nice touch.. when Reno steps on Rude's glasses, he freaks out, then pulls out another pair. I actually really liked the Turks in this movie. They've always been kinda cool, but I never liked Reno much he just seemed annoying somehow. It was nice to see them in action. I was a little sad when Elena and Tseng got waxed in the first 40 seconds of the movie but it was nice when they returned as well.

Well, for better or for worse they haven't made movies for them all yet.

Oh.. I just noticed, Denzel has one green eye and a blue eye, a la Yuna. One more VIII nod, among many.

Damn nahu... you're just going off about this movie.

I was quite happy with it... now to watch the "Last Order" short that came with the collectors edition of the jap DVD.

This movie met and surpassed my expectations. I would watch the 8 hour version if it existed.

Best video game movie ever IMO.

Not that previous video game movies set the bar that high, but yes.

The best way I can describe this movie is Two Hour CGI Erection.

Now we just need leaked naked tifa/yuffie/aerith renders a'la Aki Ross

Ok, I have a question.. I still can't get a bead on what's going on here. Was Rufus the one manipulating the whole mess from the sidelines or did he try to and get caught up in it?

I really didn't get that part either. I get the whole reunion thing... but what was up with the kids? where they part of the same breed as cloud and sepherioth? It was so long ago since I played the game.. The disease what what?

I loved it. I loved every damn minute of it. (especially when Red was doing something because he's my favorite)

I bought the Limited Edition DVD which has some trailers of the other FFVII games and a "Reminiscence of FFVII" - which is about a 20 minute segment showing an entire summary of the original game. It shows both FMV's and actual gameplay. I think I really had forgotten how much I loved the game.

Studying Japanese all Summer really helped my understanding of some parts. I'm gonna watch it again tomorrow night.

This movie was pure classic Japanese story telling (That is a compliment). Although admittedly, if you have not played FFVII somewhat recently, this movie will be confusing as hell even with thier "recap" at the begining heh.

My personal favorite aspect of the movie was the music remixes. The piano version of the battle theme during the Church fight, the "Congratulations" theme as the cell-phone ring-tone, the Jenova Remix during the Cloud/Kadaj fight, etc.. Man I love Nobuo Uematsu

As far as the trasnlation issues. From what little Japanese I do know, I did notice some mistranslations, but nothing too severe.

Of course, now I must re-play FFVII because the movie has got me re-interested in it. I played it about 2 months ago, but quit after about 23 hours to play Shadow Hearts Covenant. Time to finish it again =)

Advent Children did arrive, just as he suggested, and clad only in a masterfully constructed fansub we dove headfirst into a liquid pool of concentrated fanservice.

It should have a warning of some kind on it, when it hits retail. Something like:

Fanboy Warning

This film contains scenes that may be totally f*****g awesome. Your favorite characters may be rendered in extreme detail as they take part in mind-blowing battles set in familiar locales. Futuristic scabbard/motorcycles might be depicted in a way that makes them appear sweet.

Then you'd at least have a little heads-up. Even coming into it as I did, with full knowledge of that we were about to receive, I was not prepared for the old emotions to thaw thus and then boil. I'm sorry if discussions about pirated materials agitate you, if you were able to resist it than you're just a better person than I am. At least now you know you're waiting for something good.

I just watched it again.. I'm no closer to understanding Rufus' role in the movie, and I REALLY don't understand why he pulled the Trinity Highrise stunt when he threw the Jenova cells over the side and then plunged in after them. I'll have to think about it some. Rufus in general is an enigma, but he always has been.

I really think that scene that I enjoyed the most overall, even tho it was hardly the most action-packed, was the sequence when Cloud is flying up and everyone keeps throwing him higher. That whole thing followed by the scene in which Aeris appears to him at the end and tells him he's all right... those two scenes really, really struck me. Very powerful scenes. Classic, no matter what anyone says. It's unfortunate this was a video game movie for the sole reason that the storytelling power of it will be downplayed severely. Many non fans will think it's *just* a video game movie and dismiss it as such. Oh well, their loss.

One thing for sure, Cloud has been immortalized for ever now as the ultimate in Billy Badasses.. no doubt about it. He's clowned Sephiroth not once but twice now. No one is ever going to be able to touch this guy again.

-Nah-
