A former U.S. Marine who participated in capturing ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein said the public version of his capture was fabricated.

Ex-Sgt. Nadim Abou Rabeh, of Lebanese descent, was quoted in the Saudi daily al-Medina Wednesday as saying Saddam was actually captured Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, and not the day after, as announced by the U.S. Army.

"I was among the 20-man unit, including eight of Arab descent, who searched for Saddam for three days in the area of Dour near Tikrit, and we found him in a modest home in a small village and not in a hole as announced," Abou Rabeh said.

"We captured him after fierce resistance during which a Marine of Sudanese origin was killed," he said.

He said Saddam himself fired at them with a gun from the window of a room on the second floor. Then they shouted at him in Arabic: "You have to surrender. ... There is no point in resisting."

"Later on, a military production team fabricated the film of Saddam's capture in a hole, which was in fact a deserted well," Abou Rabeh said.

Wouldn't suprise me the least bit.

Edit, forgot the link.

ohh btw, I noticed that you did not deny the fact that you do suck JC's cack. So you are playing the roll of the woman, eh?

thats not the point. the point is most people don't enjoy being lied to by the people they put into power. and to be honest, to think they made up that whole story just to cover up the fact that saddam was in a house? sounds a little stupid to me...there were obviously other reasons, that some people (that like to know whats *actually* going on) want to know.

unfortunatly for the people currently in power not everyone is like you and likes the head in a hole ostrich approach to living, neatly tucked under the wing of fabrication of truths by your govournment to keep you calm and docile, and falsly believing that everything will be just fine.

It is basically propaganda. Sure it isn't a lie of any substance, but people don't like it when their government tries to manipulate them.

A healthy amount of skepticism in our elected officials is okay, even if you voted for them.

True, and digging for something so minuscule as this shows they really can't find anything that is substantial. They are grasping for straws...what a shame.

Here's what you do to see how valid the claim is.

If the person who made the statement is now living in the Middle East, it's either true or b******t. Why? He fears being jailed. Or, he won't be jailed. Who knows.

If the person is living in the US, and still in the USMC, see if he's brought up on charges. See what charges are filed for a better picture.

There are ways to check on things..he may have made all of it up, in which case he might get his hand slapped. If that's the case, he lied through his teeth.

If it's true, there are a variety of reasons as to why they told version x of story y, ranging from further operations, or perhaps psyops. Who knows. Something to think about. Not really important, bottom line, he's bagged and tagged now.

Well, obviously he's an american citizen, or else he wouldn't be in the armed forces. So what if he's in Lebanon. Maybe he's visiting his grandparents. Your ancestors probably came from Ireland at some point. Does that mean we should ignore you, or even arrest you, because you are likely to blow up a building to express your protestant/catholic views? Of course not, that would be total b******t, as is your spin that this guy must be a malcontent because he happens to be of middle eastern descent (not to be confused with an ARAB, because he's AMERICAN, just like you), and that he's also no longer in the armed forces (his 4 years could have been up, he could have been wounded, or he could have just gotten tired of all that time in the desert killing insurgents. I know I'd leave as soon as I could in that situation.).

As for you Dyers, obviously your reading comprehension rivals your hero, GW. You keep asking what's the difference between a well and a hole. They found him neither in a well or a hole, but in a house, according to this guy. That's a drastic difference between just well vs. hole. They were saying, in the article you didn't read, that the hole they supposedly found him in was a well they used as a prop. But I'm sure you don't have time for things like reading and fact-finding, what with all the church-going and book-burning you undoubtedly have to get to.

My question is, assuming this isn't all BS, why cover up that they pulled him out of someone's house? Was it someone important who was hiding him that the US doesn't want to reveal? Or was this just more political spin machine in action, trying to make it look like Saddam was crushed both militarily and personally, hiding in a hole, instead of living in a nice house waiting for us to find him? I could almost buy that angle, from a psyops standpoint. It not only makes U.S. citizens feel better, but it also disempowers him in the eyes of the Iraqi citizens. They would feel much better to see it on TV that Saddam was dragged from a hole, looking like he'd just eaten a rat and p****d himself, than to see that he still had strong allies within the country who might do something like, I don't know, kill them and their families for doing things like joining the police or going to vote.

Eindar, if you somehow missed all the idiots who copy Khrath's standard response to anything I post, I am Jewish not Irish =p (and if you want countries, German and Russian primarily 3-4 generations ago)

As to the article, something I learned in college as a history major was to always examine the source of your information.

As an Arab, American or not, speaking to a Saudi Arabian paper (the most radical regime in the region politically) while in Lebanon and not here in the US -- while proving nothing it certainly does raise some serious questions about the soldier's motives and veracity. If his 4 years were up he joined the military before 9/11, when it was a safe way to earn money, and could very well be against American policies in the Middle East and trying to actively undermine them now that he is done with his service. Given that he has a fully Arabic and non-Americanized name he is probably first generation American as well, with strong family ties to the Arab world.

Again, nothing conclusive, but a very good reason to doubt this story until it is corroborated by another source.

I think it's interesting, and it would bother me a lot if it were true. It seems pretty unlikely though. Too many people would have to know; there'd be more of them talking if it were true. Hard to see what his motivation could be though.

I forgot you're always the guy yapping about the west bank and crap over the last 4 years Smile

Regardless, I agree it throws doubt on his credibility, but not so much that you can just dismiss the story out of hand. I guess my next question is, if he's so reliable, why didn't he sell his story to the Today show and make some bucks while denouncing Bush? Why is an islamic newspaper the only outlet willing to tell your story. Surely Reuters would be chomping at the bit to expose Bush as a liar.

Cry me a river, you little retard. I'm not the one who brought up the homosexual behavior. Apparently that's YOUR issue, not mine.

How do you KNOW he wasn't in a house? Oh, that's right, you don't. There's no way for anyone to prove for or against, and I've said that. Meanwhile you've been doing a lot of panicing and belittling anyone who doesn't worship Bush like some sort of God-thing. Grow a d**k and start thinking for yourself, instead of eating all the shit that local news channels shovel into your mouth daily. It must have been tough for you guys to have a president for the last 8 years who was not only democratic, but also brought on the most prosperous 8 years in american history. I'm sure you're much happier now that we've got outrageous debt, a war, and increased gas prices, much like I predicted the day after Bush got elected.

Oh, and for the record, I don't subscribe to a party system. I vote for whoever I think represents the country best and who will do a better job. That's called free thinking Smile
