Anyone else come to think of why do people pay ridiculous amounts of money for Items, pp, chars in everquest? do you see DAoC accounts going for 500-1000 bucks? no. UO? okay bad example, AC2? no Shadowbane? well that was failure from launch but why everquest?

is the virtual penix that big in EQ?

Being uber in EQ takes a LOT of time. Some people want to be uber, but they don't have the time because they have a demanding job. Demanding jobs usually pay pretty well, so they have more money than time, and they buy stuff from people with more time than money.

Yes, but the point im getting at is why is it Everquest? Any online game takes alot of time to be good. In all of the MMORPGs, I've only noticed that everquest is the only one where you can make 1000's of bucks without getting out of your seat, well with the excpetion of going to pickup the money Smile

Also because none of the games you mentioned have grown as big as EQ or have such a successful record overall.

I haven't logged on in two weeks.

I think it's over for me! Yay!

But I digress... EQ is a hobby, and for some it's one worth spending real money on. Sure it's just pixels and will be gone one day, but I know people who spend a buttload on their flower garden every year too.

/shrug... whatever gets ya off.

supply and demand just like anything else. when more people want to buy something the price goes up and more people come to fill the supply . The other games must not have as meny people wanting to buy things .

EQ has more people wanting to buy things(demand) just because the number of people who play.

I think people buy the stuff because some of them think the game will somehow be easyer if they have the gear. Unless you are talking about a real nice weapon , fungi or maybe some item with a nice focus effect i really don't think any items really help that much. Game will be just as easy/hard as it was before. I think it really is more about having cool items to show your friends. Same reason highschool kids all need to have designer jeans , its not so much for the style of the jeans it's the tag on them.

Another legit reason to buy things is ya started playing again. so they don't want to start over with rustys and the guild tunic. buy a fungi some haste and a weapon to speed things up so you can hang with your friends again.

Also a lot of the games you mentioned you can't inspect other peoples equipment.

In EQ you can which leads for the need of a big vitual penis.

Also, there is item decay in DaoC, while items in EQ last until you replace them with better ones. Levelling is also very easier in DaoC.
I haven't played UO in a few years, but the only incentive to buy a character would be because they had a castle or a strategically placed house. With macroing you could dish out a fully maxed character in 3 days, and equip him with your blacksmith in 10 minutes.

And a flame just for Goraz: They probably pay thousands of dollars because they can afford it, since they don't rely on foodstamps like you do.

The secret is I'm a one-game person. With whatever gaming time I have, I pour all my energy into just one. Right now it's VGA Planets... a game I've always preferred over EQ.

That would be funny if it was true. Listen little boy, your annual income doesn't exceed my weekly income. Please obtain some knowledge before trying to attempt any "food stamps" or poverty related flames.
You might get farther in life.

f*****g idiot.

whatever Gossipmonger wins, his comment was funny while yours was just whiney and a horrible retort, of course hes just kidding nobody knows anyones annual income on this message board. Not to mention the fact you f*****g contradicted yourself quite harshly, you claimed to have more income in a week than he would make in a year Buuut then you made the point of "obtain some knowledge" before you try making any poverty related jokes, Uhmm Hmmm Confused

13 bucks a month. ~100 dollars in buying original game/expansion software.

Everquest is cheap.

I'm a high school student, I don't have a job, yet I have no problem paying for Everquest.

My brother is starting to get into paintball. He has to pay 200 dollars for a paintball gun, plus periodically he has to buy paint balls, fill the CO2 cartridge, buy other equipment, etc etc.

If you think of Everquest as any other computer game, then its expensive.. if you think of Everquest as a hobby, then its not really expensive.

With the amount of time people put into it, this extra money isn't a huge financial drain. People buy extra computers to play two accounts, for example.

<< Buuut then you made the point of "obtain some knowledge" before you try making any poverty related jokes, >>

I think Goraz meant to 'obtain some knowledge' about his uber job or whatever that makes him tons of money (ha). Either way, Gossipmonger still beats Goraz Smile

Hey Tinkerbell:

I typed this in about 5 seconds and the grammar slams are getting pretty old so STFU plz. I love how people who don't like someone's opinion flame them for grammar. I bet I could find tons of spelling/grammar mistakes sifting through some of your posts.

Long before Everquest I knew of folks that payed thousands of dollars for character accounts in a high end MUD called Gemstone. Of course Gemstone started back on the old Genie network where folks payed from 6 to as much as 18 dollars an HOUR, just to play. And at those prices there werre still folks that played for hundreds of hours a month. Then it went to AOL and Prodigy at the comparitively low cost of 3 dollars an hour, before they both went to unlimited use, and the game moved to its own Web based thing for 10-30 $ a month for unlimited use.

And there are still like 500 folks a night logged on to that game, text based and all.

And VGAPlanets is another old time low tech game thats still a lot of fun, especially when you are playing against folks ya have known for years. The Star Warriors still play regularly, though I missed out on the current game.

Yeah that's what I've got goin' now, my bro and father are playing and I've known a couple of the other guys 10+ years. I first played during my sophomore year in highschool... a decade ago. It was great, we even got two of our teachers involved.

For all it's simplicity, it really is a great game. It's got everything... economy, warfare, diplomacy, exploration, and of course, the interation with real people.

I make shit for money. I earn about $100 more per month than my bills total to. Unfortunately, this excludes savings.

Anyway - I have more money than time right now. If I were still playing EQ full time, I would gladly pay $50 for some plat to buy some neato right-click item.
