Everquest 2 Necro Pet Question

Hi! I am new to all these massively multiplayer online role-playing games. I once played Quake 3 in multiplayer mode, and that is the only online playing I have ever had! So, I installed EverQuest 2 and my friends told me a few things and show me few moves. I noticed that I have Necro Pet, but I dont know what should I do with that? Can you give me some example of usage of these pets?

I ran into this while in Lava last night. Using Necro undead charm Control Undeath - 55 (what a good name for a charm) I had my pet up and I charm a level 49 heroic mob, the pet window converted to the new mob but my pet didn't die. So I had both pets defending me and attacking off the standard pet controls. That is one of the more purposes of Necro Pets in EverQuest 2.
