Are there any current players? I used to play awhile back and quit after my cruiser bot blown up. (No insurance, DAMNIT!)
There were alot of talking about new Frigates comming out, like Hybrid type Frigates. (Are there new ships added on from the retail?)

I'll admit that it's like that in the beginning.
Really, it all depends on the players preference. Whether you like it or not, your going to build up your character. (There are more than just mining)
If you liked doing Quests in other games, you can do Agent Missions.
If your a lay-back person you can trade between stations/solar systems. (Including illegal Items if I remember correctly)
If your semi-layback you can mine. (Although mining can get inteesting if your in a coorperation and are getting the good metals. The good metals are farther out in space where alot of Player Pirate Organizations roam)
No matter what path you choose to rise up ithe ranks in Eve. In the end you'll be able to always switch at any moment what you want to do. (Because you'll have money) If you want to mine, go ahead. If you want to do some trading go ahead. If you want to do some Agent Missions, go ahead. But at this point in the game, if you want to buy a cruiser and deck it out with missles/lasers/turrets, be my guest.
